26mm bars-25.4 stemWill this work? The stem is a faceplate type.
Methinks I already know the answer but I can't find these bars in 25.4 ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stemCoke can fix ??
Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stem
Wrong way around, he has bars that are 26mm and a stem that is 25.4, so the question is is there enough play/slop to jam the bigger bars into the smaller stem?
Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stemAh..... yes
I think you may be shickered, Shaun. Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stem
Not a clue I don't have the bars yet. Found this old MTB stem and had an idea, been trying to find road bars to suit the planned aesthetic. ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stemNitto road bike handle bar (on ebay)
May be worth a look. [Edit]......or better still: Cyclingdeal Alloy Road Bike Handle bars 25.4mm Last edited by greyhoundtom on Mon Nov 12, 2012 5:53 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stemDoesn't work safely. Very limited contact points between stem and bars.

Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stemThanks all, might have to rethink this.

Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stemor another stem...
I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stemAgree. I used to think that 31.8 was a bad idea as it would add more of an aero disadvantage. But when you consider the mechanical leverage of the position of the hoods over the radius of the bar, it's no surprise that heavier people can have problems with bar slip. A change from 25.4 to 31.8 should increase the bar hold by 25% at the same stem bolt pressure. My last two stems I've bought in 31.8 and shimming down to the 26 bar. In future I plan to upgrade to a 31.8 road bar.
Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stemWhat length stem do you need? I might have a suitable one kicking around that you can have for peanuts ~$5-10 + post. OTTOMH, I think I have a 90mm (? rise) and 120mm (adjustable rise) that would work with 26mm (I think they are 25.8mm). The 90mm is two bolt (I use the same on my Kinesis with 26mm bars) and the 120mm is some funky thing that came with my OCR2.

Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stem
It's not so much the entire diameter, but a 26mm with 25.4mm stem will have two small contact points rather than having contact the whole way around. "My bicycle masters boardwalk and quagmire with aplomb. Those that doubt me... suck THUMB by choice."
Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stemThanks Simonn But the stem I have is the starting point so I have to find bars to suit.
I don't suppose reaming the clamping area out would be a good idea? ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stem
Depends on how much meat there is in the clamping area? A lot of them are on the lean side as it is, could you put up a photo of the stem please.
Re: 26mm bars-25.4 stemThis is it but it isn't...
