I don't usually use plastic bags for that

Well I hate the banana in my top on a hot day, its not very nice. Also I am not one to want to stop in the middle of my ride to find a bin. So fan of the bag idea. Also I was berated one time for not taking out the peel of my top and putting in the wash.

Maybe he meant plastic bags for wee? Was the obvious joke I thought but now that you've admitted to leaving other organic waste in your jersey it does make me wonder....

Take it home where SWMBO uses it to fertilise her rose bushes. When we ride our tandem she gets through three or four bananas in the day!

Interestingly enough when I was a Venturer Leader we were told that chucking an apple core into the bush could result in the propagation of an apple tree which could displace native vegetation, an extreme example I know but thought provoking.

Gathering trail-side blackberries along the Great Southern Rail Trail. Have done similar with apples on the East Gippsland Rail Trail near Bruthen. However this is not an issue with bananas

Wow, if banana plants were growing on the side of the road I would be in heaven.

I know people who wouldnt eat an apple off a tree because it would somehow be 'yuck' 'that's from outside, eeew'
Haha, more for me!

Maybe I'm reading this all wrong but the most popular suggestion so far to prevent littering is to put an organic 'food wrapper' that only takes 3-4 weeks to decompose, inside a man made container that may take 20-1000years to decompose when it subsequently gets sent to landfill?

I feed banana peels to my muscovy ducks, they absolutely love them.

The obvious answer is....

EAT THE BANANA PEEL AS WELL :P

Hahahahaha. Im just kidding. I can't believe there is actually an article on what are the benefits of eating banana peels

Seriously though, the best thing to do would be to bring it home and compost it. But before you compost it make sure you (also from that website) rub it on your skin to stop itching, reduce inflammation, remove warts, smooth out wrinkles, get rid of acne, control psoriasis, and improve skin tone and texture. :D

I go surfing with a guy who hates having any rubbish in his car.. it's cringeworthy when he throws banana peels out the window on the freeway just because he doesn't want to leave it in the car and throw it in the bin later on. If I am out in the middle of the bush, then the peel will go into the bushes out of sight and buried under the soil. But if I am in an urban area I'll just put the peel in my pack pocket and chuck it in a bin at the next opportunity. Banana peels take a while to break down if separated from the fruit, about 4-8 weeks from most reports.

That's hilarious. Note the 3rd monkey actually rejected a fair bit of the end of his banana, much more than what I usually reject. Picky monkey!

One alternative is to peel the banana before the ride. Now, how does throwing the peel in the bushes compare to the consumption of another length of Gladwrap in environmental terms?

what do you do with the plastic bag you put your banana peel in?

I sometimes carry one of those wee freezer bags from Coles, put the peel in there if there's no bin, so it does get mushy on my top, then bin it at home.

Easy, Banana's taste (and smell) horrible. leave them at home for someone else to eat and bin while I'm not there.

Chuck it, somewhere a bit out of view. with no shame.

I can report when i chuck a banana peel on the vege patch, at this time of year its a black remnant in no time.

and monkeys open them from the other end, try it sometime.
