29er MTB shops

Postby squeakywheel » Fri Nov 16, 2012 7:22 am

I'm looking for a shop that sells 29ers, preferably with a good range but also good at fitting, advice etc. in the Sydney region (pref. inner city).

I want to give mountain biking a go, just on fire trails and easy stuff but dont want to spend a huge amount of money on a bike in case I lose interest. The fitting is important as I have knee issues.

I went to a local store last night which has a very minimal range. I tried a couple on test rides and while the standover height was ok, I felt like my knees were too bent while riding and felt cramped even after the jacking the seat up really high. The shop guy said youre supposed to have your knees quite bent on a MTB, and that i was used to road bikes so it felt weird. I wasnt sure wheter to believe that or not (my feeling is that the frame may have been too small, but if that turns out to be true about the bent knees thing then maybe a MTB isnt for me?).

Thanks

mc cyclery carry several giant 29ers, i have been meaning to go for a test ride for a couple of weeks now...other than that it might be worth a walk down clarence st, just to see (there is giant, clarence st cyclery, a specialised shop and another bike shop if i remember correctly).
