velobase wrote:These shoes typically came with a set of somewhat cheesy square tapered washers that could be used to change the angle the pad hits the rim. Toeing a pad in at the front helps to reduce squeal when applying the brake and the washers allow this adjustment without having to bend the caliper arms. Most experts agree that the fins serve no functional purpose, in spite of what users may think. The pads were manufactured for Mathauser by Kool Stop and the salmon pad material is long-wearing and provides excellent wet-weather stopping performance.
Definitely unique-style points there.

My finally finished Viscount Aerospace Sport resto. Original bike had Dura Ace first gen front and rear mech. I've totally rebuilt the bike with DA 1st gen everything: hubs, cluster, (centrepull) brakes, levers, headset, seat pin, cables, BB, and crankset. Rims are still 27" (630mm). Bars are Nitto Dove flipped and shortened. Mudguards are Honjo. Saddle is Ideale 70. Pedals are MKS.
It was always a production bike and lacks those nice touches like axle adjusters and reinforced brake bridge. But the frame rides like a dream. You can tell from the toolkit under the saddle and the dirty sidewalls this is a regular ride. b

I've got some more movement happening on my Sebring restoration, 2nd coat of primer on this morning.
I can't decide whether to keep the original Tourney centrepulls/500 shifters (tatty chrome etc), use a 600 Arabesque group, period SunTour, probably VX GT, or a late 80s indexed SunTour GPX group. Decisions decisions!

10.1kg. I was barefoot so it rode straight, up, to the left, down, left, down and to the the left again - only about 500m.....

Goes up hills well. Better than a 12K Specialized in any case... Me? Baggage?
