Re: munga's new projectnice raleigh!
Re: munga's new projectThat Raleigh is identical to one that was in Ipswich Bicycle Centre around 1989/90. Was on the wall for a long time, along with a couple of other Raleighs, was a little too big/expensive for me
Re: munga's new projectSeems to be one notable absence in your list of bikes and frames???

Re: munga's new projectso...
repco vertex tt: finally have a fork for it. yet to trim and paint it, but it's on. big up's to funnybike for parting out his neices 650c sorenson for the cause. also have the correct rear derailleur, so it's almost catalogue correct. rims are wrong and the front is radially laced, but hey, i like it like dat. raleigh 653 race: new kid on the block getting plenty of ride time. 10sp campag. it's in the raleigh thread. repco vertex: been up on hooks since l'eroica. vaeske has earmarked the tyres for a project, so i think it'll stay up in the rafters until i source the correct fork for it. might return it to dt shifters/single pivot brakes etc. raleigh team ti: bought the frameset from dayne over winter. still doing nothing. lemond: still unpainted. still doing nothing. colnago: ditto. bought a groupset for it, so now the centaur group is waiting for a donor frame. shogun samurai: new bike with 7sp 105. might receive campag 10sp from vertex. sounds alright. few other things going on, but right now i'm just biding my time, thinking about what to keep, what to sell, what to add.. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
Re: munga's new projectSome nice bicycles there, I particularly like ... almost all of them. Actually it's the Specialized MTB; would have been my dream bike back then.
Death before Di2!
Re: munga's new projectso i picked up this olympic cycles frameset from WA and i've sheared off the splines on the driveside cup of the shimano bb.

Re: munga's new project
Yeah, it's gold. God bless his soul, Sheldon.
Re: munga's new projectthis is a cartridge type bb

Re: munga's new projectThe Sheldon trick only works on the old school fixed cups. Use a hack saw blade and go easy, chop through the side of the cup toward the threads.
So we get the leaders we deserve and we elect, we get the companies and the products that we ask for, right? And we have to ask for different things. – Paul Gilding
but really, that's rubbish. We get none of it because the choices are illusory.

Re: munga's new project
Ah, and of course the drive side is attached to the rest of the unit. Can you get any purchase on splines? Tap it from the NDS with a soft hammer or rubber mallet as you turn it a little, might just give you enough bite to loosen it. Jim MY RIDES: My Velospace Profile
Re: munga's new projectand do you know what?
it's all my own fault i tried removing the cup (english threaded 68mm bb - drive side threaded the opposite direction), and thought to myself, if i can just budge it the other way (easier to get more leverage), i can go the other way once it was free. phone rings and i go back to work on it - the wrong way! get almost one full turn and there's no more room for the threads to turn and *CRACK!*, one sheared off spline/flange thing.. what a dolt.. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
Re: munga's new projecti'm going to try clamping the tool in there and trying again in the correct direction. i hold very little hope of any success..
