Hi all, I can finally start on my 2 star restoration now that I have all the key bits in place.
The frame/forks I just got from Geoff still have a reasonable amount of what appears to be original colour and pinstriping on them, but I'd really like to see some more detailed photos of original/authentic paint schemes from back in the 30's/40's/50's year 2 Stars.
If you have any, please feel free to post them up here in all their glorious detail so I can get inspired for as authentic a paint job as I can do
I will at some point start a thread on my restoration, but it's going to take quite a while as I need to build a new shed first... and relocate a small fence before that...

Thanks Gary, although embarrassingly enough I've actually found and replied to your thread earlier... guess I forgot itGaryF wrote:Here's a link to my Malvern Star Clubman of 1938 in this forum:

Did you end up hearing from Greg/Cyclomondo on your decals at all?
Mate I love that work on Cyclomondo's Flickr account, but unfortunately I don't believe it's an authentic restoration as such, which is what I'm trying to achieve...
I will most likely get my decals from him though

I wrote to Greg at Cyclemondo but he never replied.
Best of luck with your project as it sounds very interesting. It would be great to see the process on this forum.

That's a shame...GaryF wrote:I wrote to Greg at Cyclemondo but he never replied.

Once I have some to start some progress I'll start a thread on the restore for sure.
At the moment I haven't even had time to finish getting the cotter pin out of the right crank yet...

Here is a link to myFlickr page - it contains some photos of my original 1958 2 Star. Pictures not the best, but they give you some idea of colours and some pinstripe detail.

Nice colour scheme....is there any chance of a drive side, upright shot? Have a Two Star frame in the shed and a 5 Swan from 1949 that would look sweet with a similar paintjob

Thanks for the photos! Definitely some nice detail on these old Malvern Stars and I'd really like to capture that if I can... going to be a challenge getting it looking good but I like a challenge

Finally took some more photos - hopefully these are better quality. http://www.flickr.com/photos/richardact/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A bit of history on the bike - I bought it from my former neighbour, Neil, last year (for $10) as he hadn't ridden it in some years. He won it in a singing competition as a 14 year-old in Melbourne (1958). His Dad took him down to Bruce Small's shop to collect it. Neil used the bike on his fruit delivery run around the Mentone area as a teenager. After moving to Canberra, the bike was used as a daily commuter during the 70s and 80s. After buying the bike, I popped some air into the tyres and away it went. I cleaned it up a bit and put one new tyre on it, but it needs some further maintenance work. The chain is slightly twisted and the teeth on the chain ring are worn, but I wouldn't want to change them. Apart from tyres, I'm pretty sure the only un-original parts are the pedals and the seat. The bike also came with the original dynamo and head light. I ride it a few times a year - it is nice and comfortable to cruise around on, as long as not too many uphills are thrown in.
