I am calling it, 10 years old is retro - especially in Cyclocross.
Just piecing this one together. Living in the sticks now, and not actually close to any MTB trails means that this one will help me get dirty more often (and the roads around here are AWFUL). Hopefully there are a few "gravel grinders" in the coming weeks, but I actually still need to ride a lot of (very bad) tar to get to the dirt roads.
Rival compact cranks
Tektro Mini Vs up front (as I cannot find a cable hanger that mounts to the fork AND stays out of the way) - for the moment anyway
Tektro Cantis on the rear - for the moment anyway
Ritchey WCS Seatpole
Flite Ti Saddle
Orbea Zeus 44cm bars (heavy, but I like the drop and the hooks)
Can headshok stem (with lots of rise, so I can ride the hooks much of the time)
Mavic Opens on 8s Shimano 105 hubs - but likely to be replaced with some Velocity A23s as they suit Cross perfectly
2012 Veloce 10s Ergos
Either Dura Ace RD (setup for 8s cassette) or a Centaur 10s RD
8s or 10s cassette to accomodate

I raced 'cross when I lived in London (98-02), and then about 6 years ago I saw this frame lurking in the back of the Cannondale warehouse I made them an offer they couldn't refuse.
I have had plans to get riding 'cross again ever since, but there has been "impediments".
Pulled my finger out.
2 1/2 hour ride today, and things got a little dirty!
Rides much better than I expected. Very neutral handling (at least compared to my old Raleigh 853 crosser). The headshok actually works very well. 10.2kg.
I re-spaced a Shimano 10s cassette to work with Campag, but it just doesn't seem to do it as well as in the past. Maybe it's these new generation levers.
A real bitzer. The only Shimano is the hubs and cassette. There's even a Suntour X-1 front derailleur on there.
Yeah, this one is to be used and abused. An "adventure bike" for exploring around here, and long rides up into the Byron hinterland.
I too am very guilty of trying to put together complete groups. That's why I have so many unbuilt treasures ... but they're coming together.

That's an early headshok MTB, late 90s. There are very few people who know how to fix them now. My brother in law, Aiden at RLC is the master.
+/- 20 degrees. It does look a little high, but I have very long legs and a short torso, so I need a little rise anyway. It certainly rides very well this way. In the hooks it handles really well on the big sweeping dirt road bends. It inspired confidence, so I am happy.
I totally get you. I am about to use a raised (more than the traditional 6 degrees) to fix a steerer cut too short.
I am just not sure whether I need somewhere around 20 or 30 or even 35.....
Mathematically, I should be able to convert the vertical length of stack spacers from another bike to work out the degree......but....I fail maths...
