Here's some of my fleet-

1. Malvern Star Kenetic- 12.8kgs, it's a 4130 CroMo, Araya wheels, Suntour Indexed 6 speed, 2x1200 lumen headlights, 2x7.6v Lipo batteries, 2 watt taillamp, Shim 105 pedals, 28mm Serfa's Survivor tyres, 2x bidon cages, reflectors (F & R), computer mount & a bell. (yep it's my commuter bike & that's ready to ride).

2. Repco Vantage- 12.2kgs, frame not labelled but I think they were 4130, Weinmann wheels, Shimano SIS indexed 6 speed, 2x silicone frog (they're skulls actually) front & 1x rear lights, 22mm Maxxis Detonators (kevlar belt), DA 7800 pedals, 1 bidon cage & computer mount. (my back up commuter).

3. Repco Vertex CR1- 11.6kgs, not sure of the frame but may be a high grade of CroMo, Suntour Blaze with Superbe non-indexed shifters & 8 speed Shim cassette, Mavic CXP22 wheels, Vredestein Fortezza Tri Comp (front), Duo Comp TT (rear) tyres, 2x bidon cages, pump, tool/spares bag, Garmin spd/cad sensor & computer mount. (yep, I weighed it when I got home from todays ride, took Garmin off & bidons out, that's it)

4. Repco Superlite- 7.3kgs, 4130 frame with wheels (no tyres, cassette), stem & bars (no brake levers), seatpost (no seat), headset, fork & calipers.


5. Benotto Ottimo- 1300grms, non-ferrous metal derived from bauxite (yes alumina), bare fork & frame, well it is an early 90's D/T shifted race special, hand built by Benotto Italy.

I think some of those weights are a tad optimistic. Although if they're just tube weights, you'd need to add the weight of lugs and brass to get a better idea.

Only frame I own that I've weighed; Kuwahara Condor, without fork, 2,050g ~56cm. Not sure of the tubing used. It does feel light.

I put my commuter on the scales awhile back. Repco Nishiki Olympic 12, Tange 2 I think, Non-original Tange fork. As pictured, the bike weighs 10.4kg, the wheels made a big difference.

I also have a spare Olympic 12 frame, no forks, exactly the same but the next size up. It weighs 2.8kg including original BB and headset bearing cups.

Interesting old thread. But weighing bikes with some parts missing or with a mix of modern parts doesn't really say anything about how light or good a frame is.
However I think I have a winner, yet to see a steel frame anywhere as light. My 95"Olympia "Ex team built bike" weighs 1510g frame, 620g fork.
56x53 Columbus EL-OS and fully chromed. The seller from Hungary quoted the above weight and my scales said the same to the gram, how can we both be wrong. If it means anything to some built it weighs 8.2kg with alloy Campy 9s and modern Mavic R-sys wheels.

Custom aussie made Columbus SL 55x55 1850g, I don't remember the fork weight of either.

My Fausto Coppi weighs in at 8.4kg. The bare frame was just over 1.7kg.

Valid point, we're hardly being scientific here and I was certainly not claiming anything to be "light or good", one is relative and the other subjective. But the OP was talking about total bike weight, all be it 4 yrs ago. We've just meandered all over the topic in the last 3 pages: full bike, half finished bike, frame + fork, tube sets and everything in between. Certain figures will be more useful/meaningful to some than others, I'm sure there is already a weight weenie thread somewhere for those who want to be more competitive.
