Avon River valley

Avon River valley

Postby Pravda » Thu Nov 22, 2012 10:49 pm

Anyone ridden up the track following the railway along the Avon River?
Thinking of having a crack at it, looks like a nice ride along the river.

Looking at something like this, out and back. http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/155335323 ?

Thoughts?

I've never ridden it, but the drive is nice. The map won't show on my iPad unfortunately but is some of the mapped route blocked to traffic except railway folk? I remember they open it and allow traffic for the Avon Descent, but when training you can't get access. I'm assuming bikes would be ok but you'd need to be conscious of vehicles.

You can get all the way to Northam you know

It is an unsealed access road along the railway line ie dirt, gravel, rocks etc. A mountain bike.

Cx will be fine. It's a good gravel road...or was when I was last there.

Hi Pravda - can you post back how it goes? That looks like a route I would be interested in checking out :)

This weekend I'm heading off to Toodyay via Chittering and Julimar Road, and then back via Clackline and the Kep track.
