Driving home from work tonight I saw a pile of bikes for collection ...must say I really only had eyes for this but there were a few others I might get too in the morning.
Very strange thing is the top tube has been cut, looks like an angle grinder has cut through it ...perhaps it was because this bike has a full Dura Ace group.
6 speed.
Double D crank pedals.
Dura ace stem and post
Tange headset
3T bars.
Concor seat
havent been able to check the rims yet (closely) but they are clinchers with no label.

One of the interesting things is the rear drop out...I have seen it before but it looks like a spider web (Someone will know it)

The bottom bracket shell has Brittish made and does have some serial numbers that i will get to but the frame isnt of much use as the top tube is in half.

This. Seen a few with those swiss cheese rear dropouts. Worth your time to grab, even if you clean parts and flog them off for some spare cash.

Thanks rkelsen. I will check the wheels soon. I don't know if I will do anything with the bike, I am pretty sure it would cost me more than it's "worth," I just couldn't bear to see it chucked out.

It's also a fraction too big for me.

Those rear dropouts were made by Huret. They were indeed used in Gitane bikes in the late 1970's early 1980's. They were available to frame builders, so it may or may not be a Gitane.
PM me if you want to sell the damaged frame.

Gitane made some really rather nice road frames in the 1970s. This one made from Reynolds 531 tubing features their distinctive rear dropouts – a new gear hanger has been added and this will enable any modern gear to be used. The original paint is a little scruffy but is still quite useable. £95

Stay caps aren't the same, and can't really make out the fork crown. May not be a Gitane, but those ends are distinctive.

Hi ...have just pulled the very tidy English superbe B b .
The Bb shell reads British made with a 60 over 61 on the lhs and a v on the right hand side and a vll on the lhs chain stay lug at the Bb. Note this is looking at the bb as if bike upside down .
If anyone is interested in swapping the parts for a track frame bike 58 cm please let me.

It needs work and im living interstate in Ipswich at the moment and have no access to my tools so its now just sitting in the lock up gathering dust. Its got great potential as a tourer but needs a full overhaul. Its a scratch I cant itch .

picked up this MTB frame from the tip shop for the cheese and kisses..had no wheels so I 'borrowed' some from another bike and gave the bloke a lobster and we parted ways...

took it home stripped it, painted it, stickered it...put some now grips, seat post, seat and shifters on her......

bought this Lawrencia at a community market yesterday, the old boy said it's 60 years old, I asked him if it was his from new but he was a bit vague, so I'm not sure of age.
I asked if he had the original seat and he said, yes, but it's all shrivelled up, so I said I'd buy it if he threw in the seat, so he went home and got it for me
Even tho the frame is too small for me I had a ride around, gears are a bit dodgy, but it is tight and responsive and even with the crappy old tyres rides nice

Nice find! He's in the general ballpark with the age, probably 50s or 60s, the rear hub should have a date code on it, and the cranks may too depending on the brand. The paintwork looks to be very well preserved, looks lovely.

Got given this old clunker as it was going to be thrown out. No idea what it is. A 56cm frame, the seat measures over a foot long and looks huge. Serial number of 8004 (which probably doesn't help much). No identification marks on the head tube.

Cool, no idea what it is (it could be just about anything) but the cranks look like Williams and if so there is a tiny little date stamp on the inside of the crank arm. Got carried away at the Tip Shop up here in Darwin and came home with some interesting finds.

First of all is some sort of frame. I'm assuming it's 26" but haven't measured yet. It's got Avid V-brakes fitted, but a tab for disc brakes on the rear. LX triple FD. The Tiagra RD throws me a bit, and the fork seems incongruous. It's double butted True Temper cromo, with a big "K" as the logo, but not much else as far as decals go. TIG welded. As far as Murphy goes, it's got the exact set of shifters I was after for my recumbent, but of course I've just ordered some new ones from the online as I couldn't find any used.





Next up is a couple of pairs of XTR cantilever brakes, dug out of a box of junk. I also found 1.5 pairs of XT cantilever brakes in another box. For the life of me, I couldn't find the forth.



Finally, I found these funky shift mate like things. They might not even be bike related. I'll have a bit of a play around on Google for them later (Q&A is just starting!).



$10 for the lot...

There was an XTR front hub too, but it was missing one critical end and no amount of searching turned it out. There were a heap of old hubs, levers and other bits and pieces, including some old school front and rear Cateye lights (two sets each), like these ones:



I left them there. I find them attractive yes, but bike lights have moved on A LOT since they were new, and I don't need any more stuff.
