Hi all. just putting this out for you to look at... it was a 1984 Nishiki Olympic purchased for $25... i know about the quick release on the rear!!!! lol

Personally I wouldn't have re-painted the frame, the chrome fork tips looked particularly nice but each to their own.
I had some drama fitting a newer wheetset with fancy QR skewers to my Nishiki, the semi-horizontal dropouts allow the wheel to slip forward under heavy load when using exposed cam skewers. These skewers are fine on newer bikes as they generally have vertical dropouts so the axle can't move backward or forward. The solution is to stick with enclosed cam skewers, they will torque up a bit tighter and generally have more bite to them. Not as sexy but much safer. I'm running them on my junker train station SS conversion, no problems at all, even pushing 52/16. Fixed is a different kettle of fish.

I think everyone's first build is like this - I had a lovely Apollo Delta (say what you will) from which I denuded all bosses, attachments, etc., single speeded the crap out of it in true student fashion, rode for a few more years, realised gears were invented for a reason and sold for much less than it was worth. It was a fantastic frame. C'est la vie - it could've been worse. You could have bullhorned a set of vintage Cinelli bars.... o_O ...but that's a story for another day.

It's my favourite bike, which is lucky because it's also my everyday bike. It was originally designed for 27" wheels, which has allowed me to fit 700c wheels with 35mm tyres and SKS Longboards. The front rack was an experiment - a very successful one - but would need to be set up with better lower rack spacers than the fender stays if I was to tour with it.
Great work on fixing up a bike like this; they're much better used than scrapped...
Brings a tear to my eye. My Olympic 12 died recently. I had done about 30,000km on it in the past 5 years. It was my always faithful commuter. Even when the seat tube broke away from the BB, it still got me 20km home.
BTW, if anyone wants some nishiki forks, they can have them.

That's my version of the garage door shot. The tinny is usually parked around the back, but is for reluctant sale at the moment. Gotta shift South...
