OK, been doing this one way too many times; Nulon Brake Cleaner from Super Cheap + a decent sized rag-guaranteed. The can of brake cleaner will set you back about $10 (don't bother with the cheaper stuff, it is rubbish), you will use at most 1/4 of a can to do the bars and will find it a great resource to have in the garage for other jobs. Beware it will give some plastics a hard time if rubbed in.
Edit:I should mention, any other quality brake cleaner will also work great. Unless you plan on using the bars sans tape you could always cover the sticky stuff with...
handlebar tape!!?

plus 2, I use Bosisto's Eucalyptus Spray and Home Brand 'green' scourers.lisanne wrote:+1 for eucalyptus oil it's great at getting left over sticky stuff like that offchalls wrote:Eucalyptus oil and a green kitchen scourer - shouldn't be so hard as to scratch the finish of the bars.
