reinstalling brakes: retaining screws forward or back?

Postby WoolleyMammoth » Thu Nov 29, 2012 6:03 pm

A simple question with (i hope) a simple answer.

I put some new brake pads on, but like a clown forgot which end (front or back) the retaining screws in each pad were installed. And then forgot what the bloke in the bike shop told me, as well. Knowing that if they are at the wrong end the pads could get pulled out under heavy braking, I wanted to get a second opinion from the interweb.

So, my question is, are screws to the front or the back? My logic says back, but I don't trust it.

Give the man a cupie doll, yeah the pad retaining screws should be to the rear of the caliper, the pads are shaped (normally) so the fat section is the leading edge, the pads would be pushed further in the pad holder if they came loose. Some pad holders actually have 'front' written on them.
