Will there be any big movements in the leaderboard???...some positions in the top ten are quite close which will hopefully make for interesting "viewing".
I will put it out there that I am going to try and give Tailwind a run for his money, but given his lead, will be very happy if I can get as close as < 500 k's behind him.

Oh well, you won't lose position 4 though, way too far ahead of me. Would take me months to catch youjasonc wrote:unless my physio says otherwise next thursday I'll lose P3 next week I'd say.gretaboy wrote:Will there be any big movements in the leaderboard???

I'll only be riding my regular routes and distances, especially if there are more of these heatwaves over the next few weeks. Will be looking over my shoulder though to see how close you are gettinggretaboy wrote: I will put it out there that I am going to try and give Tailwind a run for his money, but given his lead, will be very happy if I can get as close as < 500 k's behind him.

I'll do it. January will be a bit light on. And if I'll do it, gretaboy won't be able to hold himself back...gretaboy wrote:maybe...had a bit too much time off due to injuries this year....and not doing 5 day commuting weeks has hurt me tooLivetoride wrote:You guys up for same challenge for 2013, should back into my commuting next year

hahahaha ....I was just thinking this morning as I was riding I need to worry less about how many k's I try to do each day/week/month...does it really matter I was telling myself...the other part of the brain was saying "damm right it matters"
lost around 9 weeks just through my accident, holidays and broken thumb...so I reckon I have at least another 2-4 thousand k's potential in me, minimum..if I ride all the potential days I can, and thats just commuting

Looks like the distance from Greta to Sydney is about 177kmgretaboy wrote:looks like I am a shot duck....my work is wanting me in sydney for 3 days next week...so no commuting
We'll accept that as a commute, should you decide to ride there.

Are you looking at Endomondo again? Is it worth exploring other options, e.g. Strava, which a lot of riders here seem to be using, for the challenge?

I had a quick look at the Strava challenge and it is non-obvious how to start one, let alone determine if it is possible to just count rides where the commute flag is set.
I reckon that Endomondo is probably better as we know it works and you can definitely just select "cycling, transport" and the challenge will only count rides marked as such.
You do not have to run the Endomondo (battery draining) app. I just use the Strava app on my 'droid and then export a gpx from Strava and upload it to Endomondo using their web page, not app. This probably cannot be done on smart phones though - the gpx import file selection in Endomondo 'droid app is broken and the iPhone doesn't have a proper file system. Failing all that, you can just enter everything manually.

Fair enough, if Endomondo ticks the boxes, that's cool. Just thought there just might be a way to consolidate - I currently run both Cyclemeter (for historical reasons) and Endomondo (for the challenge) on the iPhone for every ride, and am thinking about tinkering with Strava, but running three apps simultaneously seems a bit of a pain, and manual entry doesn't do it for me...simonn wrote: I had a quick look at the Strava challenge and it is non-obvious how to start one, let alone determine if it is possible to just count rides where the commute flag is set.

Battery life isn't that much an issue for me, about 15% drain per hour on the iPhone..

I upload manually and only run a speedo, so if you go to something which requires uploading then I would be out unless you can manually upload to Strava (I have no idea what Strava is).TailWind wrote:I'm in ...Livetoride wrote:You guys up for the same challenge for 2013, should be back into my commuting next year

Nice one - go for it Ross....ross400 wrote:I'm in, I was trying to crack 4000ks. Now the weather and time is against me. Gives me something to aim for next year
You never know what might happen...
JasonC had his original target of (total) kms for year at 7000 or 8000.... he soon blew that away!
