mate, you can ride a Razor scooter if that's all you've got. It's not a club, there are no rules - we just like riding our old bikes together.

Might see you guys somewhere on the loop... Taking my best mate around on his Scout; with its new chain and six speed cog installed during the week... Look out for two slow buggers... :-)

Are we going the 'alternate' riverloop this week (out through Hamilton, up over Gateway & back via Hawthorne), or are we riding the standard RL?

On a side note, Gigi's "biach" isn't making an appearance tomorrow sadly. :/

I'd rather the standard in case I suffer a catastrophic mechanical failure.

Wal42 wrote:The CO & I have discussed next Raturday, it's Riverloop East. Same start time & place, then off through over the top of Roma St parklands, down Gregory Tce to Brookes St., down Montpelier Rd to Brekky Crk Rd, Kingsford Smith Drv, Curtin Ave, over the Gateway Bridge, bikepath to Metroplex Ave, Lytton Rd to Hawthorne Rd., Wynnum Rd (or bikepath if traffic is too heavy)to Wellington Rd, around under the bridge, probably through South Bank back to our normal post ride coffee haunt at Cup.

Not many hills, close to the same as a regular Riverloop, pretty much same distance (maybe 3 or 4 kms longer), we should be able to avoid most of the traffic (if SC Drive traffic is too heavy, we can cut across it & ride the riverfront bikeway), so shouldn't present too many difficulties for our group.

Video's won't be up until late tomorrow evening or Monday, moi is off up the coast to partake in an over abundance of alcohol consumption to celebrate some pagan fertility festival (yep a xmas party), so will be lunch tomorrow before I'm in any condition to open my head & I'll need to get a ride in (which I'll do whilst they're uploading).

Have fun with the rest of your weekend.

Incorrect. :|

Rule #1- there is no rules.

As for rough surfaces, 'proper' retro wheels won't be bothered by a bit of pave` , but since you ladies insist on running late(ish) model wheels, don't come a crying when they get a little untrue.

To be brutally honest, I don't think that route is much rougher than the standard RL, & is probably was nicer that the upcoming Runday ride.

Reckon so, I'm 105kgs & run 24 radial front, 36 crossed rear (even run 32 "2to1" rear on the 'modern' bike) & don't have too many problems, you lightweight guys shouldn't have any issues.

11 riders today, and only 2 non-retro bikes: alex on his Orbea, and funnybike on his Colnago.

we had
  • a duracell berretto,
    an orbea aqua,
    a rastafarian repco superlite,
a mint raleigh competition in team ti colours,
a guy leech vertex with too many modern conveniences and too few horns/bells/flashing lights/speakers,
    a fausto coppi reparto corse,
    a dawes stratos with 7400 dura-ace,
    a tamari,
    a colnago c59,
    my raleigh 653 race, and
    a malvern star double x

overall, i think we did ok considering none of us ride the 'riverloop east' very often.
keen to do it again, but argh! all those red lights!
the best part was from kingsford smith dr to kangaroo point cliffs. the wort part was southbank..

spent a few minutes waiting for the late/lost/explorers.
saw some jellyfish from the gateway
saw a ferrari california in a garage
vomited on kingsford smith drive - wal owes me one breakfast.
stopped at about 1400 traffic lights
rode on the footpath for a bit
browning st swapmeet was a success as usual.
gtralex7dude, call me maybe re: your 105.

see ya next week!
