Honourable reasons threadThis thread is for honourable reasons for not cycling to work (i.e. wet weather goes in the excuses thread, cyclone can probably go in here).
1. Sick family member 2. Funeral Anyway, post away
Re: Honourable reasons threadMy back muscles, sometimes it hurts just to hold a cup of coffee and walk with it. When it's like that, I don't ride for days and bus it to work instead (where even the stop start motion of the bus causes pain).
Re: Honourable reasons threadIt hasn't happened in over four years.
The only honorable reason I am looking for is RETIREMENT! Unicyclist's don't need a training wheel
Re: Honourable reasons threadHad a fall while commuting home a few weeks ago and damaged some ligaments and tendons in my left arm and shoulder. It's healing, but the GP reckons I'll be off the bike until at least the end of this month. PT sucks.

Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.....it's about learning to dance (or ride) in the rain.

Re: Honourable reasons thread
Is a recumbent an option? I'm aware of your incident but don't know the details of your ongoing situation.
Re: Honourable reasons threadMy wife has changed jobs so I have to pick the kids up.
They are on the bus waiting list but it may well be 2 years before they get a seat! I have just come off of a 4 week workcover lower disk problem so hopefully I can start racking some Km's before and after work.
Re: Honourable reasons thread+1 on the days I dont commute buy bike are those that I need to pick up/drop off the kids. (the other days I drive are few, but fit into the other thread)
Also drove for the last couple of weeks of my wifes pregnancy "just in case", turned out to be some rides missed, but didn't fancy the thought of racin got the hospital in my riding gear and a lather of sweat. bychosis (bahy-koh-sis): A mental disorder characterised by symptoms, such as delusions or hallucinations, that indicate impaired contact with reality not containing bicycles.
Re: Honourable reasons thread
to be honest I haven't tried. but its not just physical, the mental aspect of the injury proved to be just as difficult. whenever I tried riding (to the local shops and back) I found it mentally difficult to cope with riding on the road. so I guess my other honorable reason is I'm crazy. Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.....it's about learning to dance (or ride) in the rain.

Re: Honourable reasons thread
it's the rest of us that are crazy - unprotective clothing at what speed?
Re: Honourable reasons thread3. The rider being sick
4. Broken bicycles (having only one bicycle is not honorable Just recently we (me, wife & bub) all had a nasty cold. I drove in a few days after I was better just to make sure I did not make myself sick again. My Dr has told me off for riding with a mild fever before. "My bicycle masters boardwalk and quagmire with aplomb. Those that doubt me... suck THUMB by choice."
Re: Honourable reasons threadneck surgery and couldnt ride for a month. safety reason, couldnt do head check.

Re: Honourable reasons threadJust coming out the end of a full week of too many places to go, too far apart, with too much stuff. Two days I've even helped cause peak hour traffic, retch. And throughout, I've been lethargic, stressed, forgetful, indecisive and whiny. Wonder if there's a connection?! And so many other people do that to themselves daily, week in, week out
I get my proper commuting life back next week though, yay. “Lexa”: 2012 Trek Lexa S; “Bluey”: 2006 Trek 7.0FX; “Eddy”: 198[?] Graecross Jackaroo
