So my front derailleur cable touches the downtube before it reaches the cable guide under the bottom bracket. It has the annoying habit of emitting an irritating rattle at high speed. I've tried playing with the cable tension but with no joy. Can anyone recommend a fix, or perhaps some kind of spacer than can be stuck to the frame to separate the cable, and not impinge on performance?
Thanks in advance.

check that your cable guide was not screwed on backwards. i.e. front end is at back. it is unlikely the cable guide when fitted correctly, was intended to allow the cable to run as close to the down tube.
if you think it could help, consider a spacer placed between the cable guide and the frame. i.e. cut from firm rubber or plastic such as ice cream containers.
