KHS made very good stuff, but often a little more lightweight than they should. As a result, they had a rep for cracking. Their late 90s/early 00s MTBs were excellent for the price.

Just found a massive (64cm) Univega Viva Sport, complete with Suntour Cycle (3rd gen) drivetrain, Shimano 6200 brakes, SR 'signature' cranks and bars and a Suntour Perfect freewheel. Much of the components are in a pretty rough state, but the frame is now stripped and cleaned and looks pretty good!

Tubeset is triple butted cromo, which I assume was produced by Miyata, who I believe were building frames for Univega at the time. Any insights into the quality of this tubing?

Got this ?clamont at a garage sale today for $80, the frame is weird, ?columbus diamond shaped tubes, says columbus on bb, colubus forks, can't make out the tubing decade but I think I can see the dove plus the paste 3 letters 'ape'? Dura cae 7400-7401 parts, turbo saddle. I had a quick try to remove the post appears to be stuck, was trying to see the diameter. Frames too big for me, paint missing in a few areas with a bit of rust doesn't appear full thickness, no wheels unfortunately.

i am going to keep the parts but the frame i guess i will try to trade, ive never sold anything bike related. cool frame though, i wish it fit me, i ride a 54cm, i might have to take it for a stretched out spin though. i wonder what sort of tubing it is? i looked through some columbus tubing stickers pics on google and couldnt see anything that had ape in it. maybe its just the clamont sticker?
i also have a triple butted clamont 1000 i think it is, has lots of braze ons (also too big for me), they made some nice bikes those guys. Clamont was a store right, in sydney?

what siz e frame is it? 56? looks interesting. Any chance on removing the seat post, bit of a hassle to remove if stuck.

I still have that Repco Victory tri A (Tange infinity tubing) thats too small for me (legs too long, can't get enough set back)..... - think its 52 seat tube 53 tt.

I think miyata made a lot frames for clamont. Think the sticker frame on the front fork looks similar my three ten. Nice pick up.

Yep, I read up on the cause, sounds like a great project - I fully intend on piecing together some MTB gear for their next collection date. The guy was really friendly too, said that I could come and take my pick of the road bikes they reject too!

Just took it for a spin, but yep seat post stuck pretty good. Just enough clearance for a 25mm tire in the back there. Gee I like how the da stuff shifts even with a rusty old chain. I had a look at some Geoff Scott pics, couldn't see a frame like mine, oh well just be another mystery frame.

That tube set on the clamont looks like Columbus ms as in multi shape . I once had a kenevans with this tube set ans wish I had never sold it ... my big bike regret !

Scott's right, that will be one of Geoffs. The MS tubing is quite rare.

Up at my parents place and the old man picked this one up a little while ago, but its too small for him. Probably going to move it on, or fix it up as a SS and move it on. Any ideas on this one?

If by 'move it on' you mean 'try to get the money you paid' or 'give it to someone who cant afford a bike and really needs one', go for it.

Low end hi-ten frame, steel rims (they appear to be?). No reason why it cant give someone reliable transport. I wouldn't spend money going the SS route, you'd only lose out, unless you've already got the parts doing nothing.
