Got an early 50k, before the anticipated heat. Wind is getting up, so I am wondering if we'll make 39. 32.5 currently.

You weren't kidding! Riding home at 4:30pm was the hottest I can remember ever riding in... The wind felt like a blast furnace.

Amy's Ride in Geelong (Victoria) on the 2nd of January this year was hotter !

I abandoned the event after about 60 km because of the heat.
I got picked up by a support vehicle with an outside thermometer indicating 41 degrees.
He dropped us off at the rest stop caus he had to go out and rescue other cyclists.
In the shade it didn't feel so bad so i got back on and completed the event, but that was a mistake.
There were some cyclists whose 10-speed chains were snapping on the road, possibly related to the extreme heat :(

Holiday weather report.
Today - humid and hot, yesterday hot and humid.
There have been the occasional storm, fortunately not violent (thankfully, touching wood)
Everything looks green around northern NSW but the humidity is extreme and the beaches are sizzling. Prob much the same as Gold Coast but less traffic here.

Well. Today was certainly entertaining. Thinking it was going to be a stinker mid way through/end of my ride I applied my body weight in sunscreen. Started off with a nice cool 21 degrees and sunny conditions at 6am. Got to about 25 degrees around 8am before soaring to 32 degrees by 8.20am. Had a breakfast stop at Landsborough and then hit the road again and that's when the clouds rolled in bringing along its friend Mr Rain and it dropped about 13 degrees to 20 degrees all in about 10-15 minutes. While it was nice riding in the drizzle for 30 minutes after these past couple days of riding in an oven I could then start to taste the sweat + sunscreen + rain as it dripped down my face (Perfer that taste than sweat from just the heat). Like most things good things never last and about 45mins-1hr later it was back to pushing 36-37 degrees. Now I'm sunburnt. So much for a nice breakfast in the Sunshine Coast hinterland

It was 45 degrees in Birdsville on Friday and Saturday!
It would appear that Brisbane environs has been spared the heat extremes that have affected most of the rest of Australia recently.
And this morning there was enough rain to persuade me to have a sleep in. :)

This Low is going to hit Sydney and will dump 100mm on them as well. I hope they don't get the winds we got.

I thought my neighbour's roof was ripping off yesterday but it was his two very big trees. I told him to move his car in front of my house and then another massive tree crashed down where his car had been. It's nuts but at least everyone seems safe.

I was hoping I could go riding tomorrow but it doesn't look as though it will be possible until Wednesday or even Thursday at least.

I guess we needed the rain. My empty rain water tank filled overnight.

If the floods get up to where they're predicting, much of the river loop will be out of action for a while. Guilty even thinking that way, considering some residents and businesses may be inundated.

+1, go to Coottha instead.

I wish that the wind would die down...I'm prepared to get wet but not blown off my bike!

I rode to work this morning at about 4.30, not the smartest thing i've ever done, lots of wind and rain and fallen foliage. River was starting to come up over parts of the Coro Drive path when I headed back this lunchtime.

It'll be a no go, i think, because the river is going to peak at 2.5m or thereabouts at about 11am tomorrow, and then again on Wednesday's high tide.

Why not just go via UQ / Eleanor Schonell Bridge into the city?
