Backpack for a laptop

Okay with a 40km each way commute, I'm looking for a small backpack / bag to carry a laptop (12.1") couple of swipe cards and house keys.

Not interested in racks ... any suggestions ?

I have Deuter one (Race Lite X) and my MacBook Air 11" fits perfectly in the padded bit where the drink bag is supposed to go. It's a very lite pack and as comfortable as they come. Similar to this one.

Check out High Sierra, the Hulk I run takes a 15" extended battery Dell no problems with plenty of room for other work and commute related stuff. Prolly overkill for your situation but they have a good range. Mine fits like the proverbial while riding, methinks the designer rides to work.

I have a 3 Crumpler packs, 1 x camera pack with laptop sleeve, 1 x camera pack and a 40l travel pack which is 11 years old, and shows only modest wear for long hard service.

The shoulder straps on Crumpler packs are ergonomic / contoured and fit the human body. I ride my MTB 10-15km on occasions with 12kg of camera gear and never regret it.

But I'm sure you could get a men's equivalent. It carries a small laptop & change of clothes (no shoes, they live at work)

I reviewed and rate the Ortlieb Vario Cycle backpack



A very comfortable backpack which I likes using as my personal prefence is not to put the computer on the panniers. It becomes quite compact and for peace of mind was completely waterproof. I left it out in torrential rain and it was bone dry inside. The laptop insert is another cost. The bad part, in Australia they are quite dear and the laptop is not fixed inside - so can move if the pack is otherwise empty.

Its got a chest strap which allows you to back off the shoulder straps to help from getting a sore neck.
