Serial Frame Number IDeas?
Postby sunho » Thu Dec 06, 2012 4:20 pm
Love picking up other people's junk!
Weird, Oakley never made frames (roadbike frames )
Yet, this one has OAKLEY on it...
Nice lime green, will weigh it when i get my scales from China (estimated 20 business days... more like a year)
Serial: K8N5041
K: Factory?
8:"8" signified 198"8" and if tange i think it should be from taiwan (Giant Bicycle Factory?)
N: Fortnight of manufacture? 14x2 = 28th week = July?
5041: model?
Just guessing based on the centurion codes...
Tubing: Tange I am led to believe? Fork has "Tange 8.1" on it
Seatpost: 26.6
Componentry (seems original) Exage 500 which puts it 90-94?
No idea of the branding which is what i want to know...

Same number sequence as the bike in this thread. Also a green bike.

I have a bike branded Oakley, also you can buy a nice digital weighing device ( has a hook ) from Tandy for a low price, will weigh in either metric or imperial too, good for bike partssunho wrote: Weird, Oakley never made frames

Thanks lots a steel bikes. Seems similar although I don't think either of them are miyatas.
Scratch man, do you know the history of Oakley branded bike frames? I didn't think they existed?!
Bb, kuwamura?
Tange 5 was what I was thinking. However I am pleasantly surprised by the light weight. Either that or I'm getting stronger which I doubt!

just did some quick skim reading,
it should be LLNNNNN if it was a kawamura (Nishiki) bike.
where L is a letter, N is a numeral
i shall weigh it soon~

Anything that starts letter-number-letter and is asian I always assume is centurion/diamondback (from whatever that factory was anyway)

I have a europa that has that numbering scheme, tange 5 PG tubing, not the lightest thing in the world but well made and lovely to ride.

but really, that's rubbish. We get none of it because the choices are illusory.

That is a Giant built Superlite frame. serial says so and so does the semi filled drive side drop out. Cro Mo 3 main tubes, hi ten stays ,and an ugly unicrown fork. probably weighs a good 2.5 kg bare too
