Campag SR Brakes

I read that the current Campag SR brake system is not as good as it could be.

What do you know about SR campag brakes, their weaknesses and possible alternatives?

I think these two sentences sum it up:

"Campagnolo say it was regular riders, not professional racers, who drove the dual-pivot rear brake option.

It would make sense to see the single-pivot rear brake used in the classics, when the riders use heavier bikes on slick roads where powerful rear braking could cause a loss of control. The dual-pivot rear brake would be better for the grand tours when the bikes are light and the routes include lots of high-speed descending."

The single pivot rear brake has always seemed like a backwards step to me, but I'm not a pro racer and I don't ride my bike the way a pro racer does. If I was buying a new groupset, I'd pick the dual pivot rear brake option.

I have Record brakes, they work fine.
All bike brakes today work 10x better than the dodgy rubbish I rode as a kid. I never com clos to a maximum braking effort. The intact patch on the road is the limiting factor, not the powe of the brakes.
As for rer vs font, the rear brake is your control brake. The front is the power brake.

My wife has SR on her Colnago C50.

Having ridden her bike many times I can say that the brakes have superior stopping power to any other bike I've ridden.

It's one of the reasons why I consider disc brakes on road bikes unnecessary.

I have 2012 Record brakes on my C50 - single pivot rear, dual pivot front.

I swap wheels in out out often enough for the amount of stuffing about getting the single pivot rear caliper to re-centre to be a real nuisance. (yes it's tensioned correctly and in perfect condition)

I've just purchased a dual pivot caliper (Record) to replace the single pivot out the back. I don't care about weight and/or power - these are both excellent with either SR or Record / single or dual pivot for a Fred like me, I just love the way the dual pivot brakes hold centre and the ease with which the dual pivot brakes are re-adjusted.

Single pivot. Dual pivot rear brakes are not at all necessary.

Running 2012 SR on my Bianchi, D/P rear - TBH for the extra $20 odd bucks from Ribble I did not even consider the S/P rears. Work very well indeed. Used Force, 105 and Ultegra - SR trumps them. Alledgedly the Red are the best but that is according to my LBS.
