Large commuter shoes in Melbourne

Postby adaml » Fri Dec 07, 2012 10:53 pm

I'm shopping for my first pair of SPD shoes. I'm looking for a decent set of commuting/touring shoes to fit my size 12 feet. I tried Cecil Walker in the CBD, but they only had Shimano shoes which don't come in my size unless you're looking at the high-end racing stuff. Do any flipper-footed forumites know of a shop in Melbourne that stocks a reasonable selection of bigger sizes?

Cheers,
Adam

your place? Assuming 47 would fit, Shimanos are sized a bit small.

Unfortunately, even 49 in Shimano is too small. I'd need something like a 51, but I'm told that none of their touring/commuting line go past 49. I'd be my first shoe from whatever manufacturer I end up going for, so I really do need to try them on.

I'm also a 12 or 13 UK in a variety of normal shoes and safety boots. I found Shimano to have a relatively narrow fit, so that 48 is too narrow but 49 a bit better and 50 about right for width but too long. I find Specialized to have a wider fit in both their road and MTB shoes, and all my cycling shoes are Specialized 48 which matches up in many of the equivalence tables you see in shoe ads on eBay to about 12.5 or 13 UK.

I ordered some of these from Jenson USA:

I usually get size 14 shoes, 49 was a little on the tight side but not after a little use. Probably about 150 rides so far, then 9 hours at work, they are holding up perfectly well so far.
