Mchugh Steel Cycling Spectacular - Bundaberg 2012

Postby brades68 » Tue Dec 11, 2012 9:39 am

All, this event was held weekend just gone at Bundaberg. About 120 riders in attendance including Internationals Franco Marvulli, Tristan Marquet, Marcel Bath, Andreas Müller, Dylan Kennett, Georgia Williams, Brad Evans, Chad Elliston to name a few. Dylan Kennett set the flying lap record with an average of 60.8km/hr (Outdoor track, 400m) tick under 24sec

Nearly 90 events all up, covering juniors (my daughter picked up a 1st, 2nd, 3rd out of her 7 u11 races - combined with the boys) up to Elite A - the 90 Lap Madison was awesome. Masters B was the lowest grade for the old guys :D
I rode, very much out of my depth (normally top end of D, bottom end of C), but I really enjoyed the experience and will head back next year. Highly recommend it for next year if your looking for a Qld pre Christmas get away.

Cheers
Mick

Mick,
Sounds like a great day out. What sort of crowd would they get
at an event like that, in Qld these days?

Hard to say, numbers wise, but looked well attended including riders families and supporters. The public grandstand area was well supported throughout the racing and toward the end of Saturday, and of course the coffee van made a killing! The days were just right, little bit warm at times but fantastic weather.
And staying down at Bargara by the beach was also enjoyable.

Cheers

Mick,
Sounds like you have the right approach, and had a good family weekend.
Enjoy your Track experience.
It can be fun, and a great social get together.
Outdoor and open venues, make for a good atmosphere, but sometimes
the weather can make it tough.
All the best.
Cheers
