Need a new seatpost

Need a new seatpostSnapped the saddle bolt yesterday on the ride home and couldn't find all the parts. I'm just after a cheap(ish) alloy seat post. Currently considering the 3T Palladium Pro or Thomson Elite setback. 3T mainly for aesthetics (as I'll eventually put 3T bars on the bike), but a mate of mine (who races track, cyclocross and road) has Thomson posts on all his bike and swears buy them.
Any suggestions/thoughts/recommendations?
Re: Need a new seatpostI've heard nothing but good things about the Thomson. Great budget option IMO.
Have you seen thevelonews seatpost test? Doesn't have any of the options you've mentioned, but worth a read IMO Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can? - Sun Tzu

Re: Need a new seatpostDitto on the Thompson but I thought the velonews test included Thompsons and said they transmitted the most bumps (sorry, my words, not theirs!!)
For me it was all about how much setback I could get. The Thompson post only gives 17mm whereas most others give 20 or 25mm Andrew ![]()
Re: Need a new seatpostThomson's are 'budget'? Go to your LBS, spend $20, get a true 'budget' cheap seat post. Can you go wrong with 3T or Ritchey setback posts?

Re: Need a new seatpostThe new Fizik posts look good. They have a nice tilt adjustment mechanism.
Re: Need a new seatpost
Well, budget releative to exotic carbon beasts at > $150. The bike has a San Marco Rolls saddle so I'm not too worried about 'road buzz'. 3T looks nice but the twin bolt layout on the Dorico looks to be very finiky and difficult to adjust. Will have to measure the setback on my current post and whereabouts it sat on my rails to get an idea of what is compatible. Last edited by __PG__ on Thu Dec 13, 2012 1:51 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Need a new seatpost
I guess its in relation to the other options you can buy. Its one of the cheapest sub 200g seatposts and the durability appears to be really good EDIT __PG__ got in before me... Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can? - Sun Tzu

I guess everyone has a different idea of what is "budget" Our Website is: http://www.pro-liteoz.com Find us on Facebook by searching for "Pro-Lite Australia"
Re: Need a new seatpostWell after reading the 'Hospitals are boring' thread I decided on the Velo Orange Grand Cru alloy seatpost with 30 mm setback.
Re: Need a new seatpostI have Thomson's on my road, cx, Mtb, tt and winter bikes. Never had a failure in 10 years.
Only issue I have with them is over time they either wear or distort a tiny bit around the clamp area... It is very minor but on mtbs and cross bike where you hammer up and down a lot it has a habit of slipping... So I am in the process of running duel clamps on those bikes.
Re: Need a new seatpostI have an FSA K-Force SB25 (25mm setback) seatpost. I find it very comfortable, and like the looks. I enjoyed reading that Velonews test which is the first remotely scientific seatpost testing I've come across.
Re: Need a new seatpostThanks for the link. Too bad they didn't get a Nitto steel post for that test. From the feel of mine, I think one would have done reasonably well. I doubt you'll be disappointed for the price. My two have served me well so far.
Re: Need a new seatpost
I'm surprised you didnt decide on a recumbent after reading that thread....
