Ghost town accessed by Joadja Road (surprise) via Mittagong or Berrima. In the 1800's they got kerosene out of shale down there. The by-product was benzine (petrol) which they tipped in the creek and lit up on special occasions. A rail line went there but it was so steep getting into the valley stuff was winched up.
The ride down is partly gravel but well formed and the steepest part is tar. 2 of our riders were able to ride all the way out (on hybrids- 34 tooth on the small chain ring). My Garmin kept showing awful numbers like 25%, 29% so riding the SS which is geared up anyway was out of the question on the tar bit. However I am no. 2 on KOM on that ascent. No looking to see how many are on the leader board!

Yes, getting close around the 300 to go mark. I've got a little under 300km to go to my revised target too. A little under 300m of climbing to complete December's 6000m and complete the big goal of 6000+ every month as well.grantw wrote:Not far to now David and Julie
Is it road bike rideable kind of well formed or is the hybrid pushing the limit for out that way?celeste boy wrote:The ride down is partly gravel but well formed and the steepest part is tar. 2 of our riders were able to ride all the way out (on hybrids- 34 tooth on the small chain ring).

The shale type rocks cut the road bike smooth treads around. But one guy has ridden out of there on Strava and I suspect he had a roadie. More Joadja today.sblack wrote:[Is it road bike rideable kind of well formed or is the hybrid pushing the limit for out that way?celeste boy wrote:The ride down is partly gravel but well formed and the steepest part is tar. 2 of our riders were able to ride all the way out (on hybrids- 34 tooth on the small chain ring).

We have been very fortunate to have norbs initiate the 6k club and foster its growth for the last three years. I have enjoyed the banter and support which has helped me and others along the way. Very keen to see it continue although I am upping my goal for 2013 to 7200. I hope I can still be accommodated within the club.norbs wrote:Welcome to the 2012 edition of the 6K Club. Now with less emissions than ever before.
Some history of this illustrious group of pretenders in lycra.
A Friday morning in March 2010 saw the club formed with a call to arms for all those with aims of pedalling 6000kms for the year. Barto and myself had been spurring each other on it the Fit Gits thread. The club slowly grew and saw a good hand full of people reach their goals. It was such a success, we decided to go again in Year of our lord 2011.
A new thread was started, the "6k Club. 2011 Edition. Now with more sparkle." It was going great guns with the gauntlets being launched like confetti at a Greek wedding. It had even had the arrival of members who didn't posses the Y chromosome. Then, late at night on the 13th of March, *poof* (Mods, please note, this is a magical term, not aimed at any particular minority), GONE! The thread had done the Harry Holt. The question was asked in this thread, which became a halfway house for a while, until it was realised the original thread, with the sparkle, he popped its clogs and wasn't coming home. So, the newest version was started up, or Reloaded. It took off and is still going today.
Hopefully the 2012 edition of the 6K Club will be as enjoyable and rewarding as the previous 2 versions.
To join the club, just have a yearly goal of between 6000kms and 6999.99kms and post in this thread. That is all there is to it. You will get an unexpected knock on the door sometime in January. A wisp of a man we like to call Baldy will be there to run you through the initiation process. Really, it is best to just relax, close your eyes and go to your happy place.
Welcome one and all. Let the gauntlets fly.

Yes and no...I raced this morning and by the time I finished it was getting too warm to ride all the way home, I needed to ride 80ks to reach the 9k today which was a big ask on a race day.grt046 wrote:That was a bit of a slipup .... congrats for tomorrow as the weather looks finemarinmomma wrote:Sitting on 8989....10 ks short of the goal my motivation to get out and ride tomorrow

Specific goals include 10 x 200 and an audax super series (2,3,4,600km (likely won't be riding a 200 in the month when I ride a 4 and a 6)), and audax dirt series and maybe, just maybe a 1200km in November. Maybe...

Graeme, don't think that should be a problem, after all it is just 6545km with online GST addedgrt046 wrote:

Next year my goal will be back to 6000kms and I hope I will be able to get there. I have an elbow operation in lat January then when that heals I will be getting a plate removed from my shoulder.
I am hoping I don't lose too much time off the bike.

Thanks Julie, nice pics by the way...here's hoping that you can get a Garmin to log your rides onto Strava with AND keep the great photos coming.
