Hi everyone in the Sydney area. I am from Perth and visiting Sydney in a couple of weeks. I'll be there for a week and visiting my newly cycling converted cousin who has just bought himself a new bike.
Problem: I am bringing my bike over and want to take him on a few rides. I am used to and spoilt by the bike tracks in Perth and though some of you may consider it 'weak', I have made a promise to my wife that I will not ride on main roads (I am in the health profession and have to fix at least one bike/car victim a week).
Question: What is a safe and fun ride in Sydney that should not be missed. I will ride on roads as long as it is a quiet back road. Remember, I am breaking in a newbie (a fit one at that). 30-60km distance is great.
Many thanks in advance,
Hooman

My goodness. It's a bit worrying if there is only one ride in Sydney considered 'safe'.

Thankyou Tim.
Do other freeways have bike tracks associated with them too?

If you call the break-down lane a bike track, then yes.hooman wrote:Thankyou Tim.

If you park at either liberator drive/mccarrs creek road intersection, or west head rd/mccarrs creek rd, then Akuna bay and westhead road are very low motorist population roads. Don't think I got passed by anything last time I climbed out of Akuna bay.

Thank you guys. I'll also be doing a ride to Wollongong. Don't know if the cuz will make it but as I am told, there are train stations all along the way.

Thank you all for your ideas. Didn't do the M7 but driving along I saw how nice a ride it would be.
Did several laps of Centennial Park on the first day. Second day we did a gentle ride around the Zetland/ Waterloo areas with a coffee in Danks Street. The next day we did 85km ride from Zetland to Wollongong. A bit frightening going down the Bulli pass road in the rain. Had a couple of yabos throw cups of coke at us, I'm told that is normal for Sydney drivers, otherwise a great ride. Then yesterday a lovely 36km ride to La Perouse and back. Very beautiful.
Met a great guy at Urban Cycles on Botany Road, Craig. Great setup.
Back in Perth tonight.
Thanks again,
Hooman
