That make sense. I though you were doing 4500 every Sunday , not as a weekly total . I'm off to Adelaide this week for 5 days and really looking forward to getting in a few rides. It's probably been 15 years since i've been up into the hills there. Only ever done Norton Summit rd to Mt Lofty, so have been studying the SA climbs thread and strava to get some new ideas. Any good routes that you recommend with lots of climbing?jimboss wrote: Adelaide. I spend all my time on my road bike riding hills. The other 4 days a week I just commute.
Tuesday and Thursday I cover around 1300m (1000m morning, 300m lunch) and if I get my Sunday ride it is between 1500m and 2000m for that ride.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are between 80-100km in total. Sundays are 90-120km.
I enjoy riding hills and live close to them so 4500 is achievable for me

So that best NPCCI of 114 was from the Marmotte?... I expect so, boy to break 100 you really have to do a mega-ride!.Gassy wrote:It does sound like a lot. I've only managed 4500+ once this year and that was the Marmotte in France. Even the ACE250 comes in around 4200.
I'll probably be back to around 150,000 next year. I had a trip to France this year which helped with winter motivation and added a few more meters.
We need a climbing under the km bar

Belair road, the old freeway, greenhill road, montacute road, gorge road and of course norton summit are all great climbs that are as hard as you choose to make them.
If you're looking to test yourself, corkscrew road and sheoak rd are my favourites. Both average over 15%.
All those hills are the eastern side of Adelaide, I have only been riding roadies for a few months... Others on here might be able to give you pointers on the northern and southern roads

No link... just a bit of fun on the forum like the 6 & 10k clubs... but this is the 200,000 meter club ... or just do what ever you can do,then post your stories of epic climbs, a good scenic pic like the one below etc etc... someone could do a leader board ( I can't be arsed, be to busy climbing ).hannos wrote:Is there a link to this challenge???
Near the end of 2013 we can see who's getting close!.

When I developed the NPCCI, I really didn't expect many people to crack 100. You need an epic ride to do it, and I am surprised how many people do them. Kudos to them.

I'm still amazed what 'roids can make people do on public roads. But I suppose most of the big KOM guys would already know about that...norbs wrote:Can't blow trumpet, lifting heavy bar...toolonglegs wrote:I will let Norbs blow his trumpet on that Bar

The 114 would be from the Marmotte. The Audax ACE 250 comes in at around 108 I think. both pretty epic rides. The marmotte was sensational, probably the best ride i've done, would love to go over again, just hope the wife will agree!toolonglegs wrote:So that best NPCCI of 114 was from the Marmotte?... The marmotte is the Glandon, Telegraphe, Galibier and Alpe d'Huez. 174kms /5000 meters. 7-8000 riders, lots of Belgians& Dutch, but many nationalities. Didn't see any aussies but there were a few apparently.
My ride on strava Marmotte

There are a quite a few tour companies that do it. eg cyclomundo, classic cycling tours (uk) or you could solo it.
I did take some pics and was going to post them one day, but it still hasn't happened.

Good job!!!!
I suggest you have a look at the Ventoux bicinglette. That is each route (there are three main ones) up to top of Ventoux twice in 24 hours. That's over 8000 m of climbing. I did the "cinglés" in July (each route once), and loved it. Not as difficult as I expected. I would register for the double-up if Melbourne was not so far away. The three routes are very different, the view is unique, the place is great.

Speaking of NPCCI, i am planning a ride that will be at least 200 Merckx, but that won't be happening til at least 2014.

100,000 sounds OK, 200,000 sounds insane, so I'll settle in the midle and aim for 150,000.
