Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,Hi
Just new to this group but have been part of ozHpv for several years.... Have just signed up a team for the Lake Wendouree Cycle Classic, Sunday Feb 10 2013 - as many laps as a 12 person team (with 4 riders on the course at a time) can do in 2 hours and a bit. Inviting Participants on recumbents. Information: http://www.ballaratcycleclassic.com.au/ ... hp?page=12 You will need to enter the team code when signing up and the basic cost is $20.00 Team code: ste236 Team Name: Steve's slowpokes. Despite the name, we could end up being the fastest team as was the case a few years ago when John Reynoldson organised a team. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzNPJgiqU_E Regards Steve Nurse
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,I'll put my hand up for that. I might even have my velo built by then

Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,Steve,
I could be interested.... Any info on what the course is ? Smooth sealed Tarmac ? Hilly or flat ? Length ? Thanks Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,
I'm pretty sure THIS is the relay course. And it looks pretty flat....though I have never ridden. Dave 2012 Felt F75 | 105 | ProLite Braccianos | GP4000S
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,
Just take your Mango and toast some roadies Masi Speciale CX 2008 - Brooks B17 special saddle, Garmin Edge 810
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,
Each lap is 6km, dead flat, fast corners and on a recumbent you won't need to worry about the tram track crossing we roadies have to watch, can get a bit of wind depending... How fast do you think you can crank them up to over that sort of distance? Merida 903 from the LBS-nothing fancy... but you haven't seen me ride (nothing fancy)
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,Hi, the course is very flat and smooth, about a 6k loop with a few sharp turns but not many. Flatter than Geelong criterium course if that's any indication. Recumbents do quite well on it.
Regards Steve Nurse
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,It will depend on whether the course uses the road around the lake, or the shared path on the "fore-shore". If the road is used, it's dead flat, with a few roundabouts, and tram crossings. The shared path is fine gravel for the most part, with a few bollards (that my trike can easily fit through, and its over a meter wide), with some short, mild slopes.
My guess is it'll be the road. Going faster than about 10-12 kph on the shared path would mean closing it to foot traffic, and I don't see that being effectively enforced. Dent.
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,You'd also want it to be staged in heats. So many different paced people on the course at one time would be chaotic and dangerous.

Hi, I've been in this ride about 4 times and its not crowded or dangerous. The ride is on the road which is wide enough to overpass easily. There can be a bit of congestion at the start but once that's over its ok. Its not a race, there are no sheepstations to win, everybody rides reasonably and its all going one way so there are no real issues. Only one sign up sofar but more needed (Thanks Ray) Regards Steve Nurse
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,
I just registered and paid, so unless you'd already counted me, thats done Dent.

Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,I plan to enter but haven't got around to it yet.......
Worst case it'll be on the Vortex, if I can sort out a trailer or van I can bring the Mango ! Anyone asked Ben Goodall to come along ? Be a good excuse to show off a new carbon RotoVelo ! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,
Go Man-Go! Assorted velomobiles: Assemble! "Insert catchphrase here" etc. So... any news on team numbers/registrations etc? Dent.
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,I might not be able to get the Mango there.....no van or trailer......

Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,"Any word on team numbers / registations.
Hi Mike Its a bit under a month to go and we have 3 on the team, maximum on the team is 10. Any more entries most welcome! If you're thinking of joining I reckon you should maybe just register and contemplate which machine to ride at a later time. To promote the event and have a bit of a get together & training I propose a couple of "pre-spon" rides the weekend before the event on Feb 2 and 3. Meet Cafe Racer in st Kilda 8am, we ride to Mordialloc and back, slightly further if the mood takes us. On the Sunday we meet up with Rob W's Be Spon ride from St Kilda pier. Regards Steve Nurse
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,I can talk to my boss and see if we can tempt some of his students to come along in their Energy Breakthrough velos. We're catching up here in Ballarat this Sunday for some trike/velo shenanigans anyway, so I'll propose it then (assuming said machines are road legal).
As for a "pre-spon" ride in Melbourne, I'm in a similar boat to Riggsbie. I've not tried to fit the Kodiak in the wagon, but I'm pretty sure the velo (my preferred vehicle) won't fit, so I'd need another form of transport, and getting to Melbourne by 8am would be a miraculous feat in my household. Any chance a training ride could be here in Ballarat around the actual lake track? (I realize thats unlikely, just putting it out there.) Dent.

Hi Mike, get enough people signed up (maybe 3 0r 4 more) and I'll come up by train for a practice run by train no worries. Reply off line in you like, steve(at)modularbikes.com.au The training runs I proposed are ones I often do on a weekend! Regards Steve Nurse
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,I am now 'officially' signed up......
Which bike I use if dependent on transport to get there.....worst case it'll be on my Vortex, maybe my Mango Sport if I can borrow a van..... Also dependent of my health as my back is messing me around right now......lots of phantom pain in my legs........ Paul
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,Thanks Paul for the signup, Hope the back issues clear themselves up. We at least a quorum for the ride. The rules are a team of up to 10 and any 4 on the road at one time. And we have 4! Expecting more to sign up before the ride, I've had a few enquiries and am eternally, inextinguishably optimistic!

Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,
Europcar support cycling and have a van that would be suitable. About $100 a day I think to hire. I want to see the video of the mango toasting everyone Andrew
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,
Get one and you'll see it everyday (AKA real time eye vision) on the flats, especially if you're punching into headwinds
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,With my current "locked up" back I might not be ride much at all, walking hurts a lot but ironically cycling on my training recumbent exercise bike is ok with no resistance...
Think I have managed to find another rider, a mega fit mountain biker and road rider I ride with a lot.....he has always wanted a go on my Vortex so I made a deal with him, so we should be 5 now ! So JP will be on my Vortex, think I have snaffled a Transit for the 10th as well ( so should be able to bring the Mango), just need to hope my back is ok ! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,
It is coming, well slowly ... nibbling away at the Minister of Finance but if she will not give an inch I am looking at a 3rd quarter 2013 order. Just have to dream till then. Andrew
Re: Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,
I hope that it gets better too. If it's not faring too well, I'm sure there are a few people on this forum that would be happy to ride in your place. I'm sure that a few day's notice is sufficient to organise flights etc. 2007 Giant TCR A2 Aliance
