I came across this in another forum and thought I'd share: http://www.paragonmachineworks.com/cgi- ... egory=TS09 Not sure if "The Shed" is the best place to post it but........ here it is anyway. Certain opens up some possibilities for those lusting after a belt drive but thinking an expensive custom frame is the stuff of never never land. There, my work is done

Whoa, now you're talking Rif.
I believe this is what's been used on my bike, retrofitted to the Charge Duster frame. I've never opened it up; haven't needed to. They're super solid.
Thinking of a Rohloff/Ogre/Gates bike then? OOooo yeah... Go the centertrak if you do though...

Nice find - I presume these need to be brazed into the seat stay.
I was going to buy a fast, stylish bike, but I looked in the mirror & thought " you're not fooling anyone, you know"

Hiya Pete, just looking (and lusting) at all the possibilities. I actually found the link on a Moulton forum as there is a lot of interest in hub gears in general and as well as belt drives. Moulton currently does a budget model with belt drive and a 2 speed hub funnily enough. Unfortunately it utilises a very narrow hub which I think may be 120mm and so my dreams of a cheap Rohloff belted Moulton went out the window upon finding that out. But yeah I'm sure I could find some joy from a belted Ogre and these babies look like what is needed for that. I'm also looking at the costs of adding S&S couplings to a frame to see what the costs add up to. Finances currently dictate looking and going "Oooo" and "Ahhhh" only at the mo, but looking is free. What is "centertrak"?

Hiya Find_bruce, yeah thats my take on them! Course someone will probably now come out of the woodwork and kick the hell out of my assumption.

That's essentially how my frame was modified, but with a splitter that looks more like the one Rif linked to at the top. The guy also added some extra braze-ons to route the Rohloff cables neatly and repainted the whole frame. It looks like he might have had to pinch the chain stay a touch to get clearance for the belt pully up front too. When I was in the USA I saw a few Santana Tandems which had their proprietary frame joint, which allowed the bike to be disassembled. They look pretty good I reckon... (sometimes these image links to CGOAB don't work, so here's the link - http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page ... size=large )

Hi Pete, man I gotta try and stay away from that CGOAB site. It was going to be my new years resolution due to my general tiredness every day due to reading away into the small hours and now you show me your 782 page journal. Coffee anyone? Whats the "centertrak" you refer to?

It's the 2nd generation of Gates Belt Drive for bikes. I have the first generation which has an outer guide on the front pulley and an inner guide on the rear pulley which keeps the belt from riding off. It's 10mm wide and alignment and tension is critical. The Centertrak is 12mm wide with a central ridge on each pulley, with a corresponding slot in the belt. Alignment and tension are not so critical, and they're supposed to have less inherent friction. You'd need to be a bit more careful that the front pulley wouldn't foul on your chainstay though. I reckon I'd be able to fit one on mine.

Just make sure the rear triangle is not a wet noodle in the first place.
