Calipers look nice and slim. Levers are tall, but not that bad. It certainly wouldn't stop me from buying and installing the setup !!

Doesn't solve one of the key issues imho, and that is wet weather braking.

Meh, the key bit for me is that it seems to be getting closer to sales time

LP – No, that was the 1st gen TRP Parabox with ultralight Ashima rotors, not the right combo for screaming down a paved road. These feel much better and are way easier to set up. I’ve felt the TRP system when set up perfectly with their rotors, and it’s good, but it’s very difficult to get perfect and, IMO all of the converters are a stop gap to complete systems that will be here very, very soon. And even then, mechanicals will have a place on less expensive bikes and for those that don’t want to cut, bleed and re-bleed hydraulic systems for internal cable runs. Even my Moots would require disassembly of the hydraulic line because the hose mounts are closed loops.

Agree with the thrust of the article.

And people think I'm stoopid for running a 180mm front disc.

If I could, I'd run a vented one for sure. Possibly a 203 one as well, but many road forks don't have the clearance to run the 180 let alone a 203.

I remember forum members strongly disagreeing with me because I was concerned about some new bikes being specified with a 140 disc on the front. They probably thought I was stoopid too . I'll keep my 185 on the road/CX bike for now.

Hi Michael,

I'm running a 185 and if a 200 (or 203?) would fit, I'd use it right away. The braking with the 185 is IMHO just OK, and this morning I rode my wife's bike with Ultegra front calipers, and my first impression was how weak the brakes felt.

Getting the cable-operated BB7 to clear the disc and still have minimal free-play in the lever is an ongoing problem. like you I'm looking forward to a combo gear shifter/hydraulic brake lever.

I didn't comment, as I didn't have an opinion. I think people are getting sick of waiting for "the complete package"

And didn't soem of the old malvern Star/Super Elliot bikes (late 70's ?) have a superfantastic disc on the rear only - the disc was a very thin sheet metal thing !!!!

Have seen one around town a few times.

I'm still hanging out for the HydroR to arrive from SRAM, and hopefully see the answer from Shimano in 2014 or sooner.

Until then, it's a bit of a in between cludge.
