Mate.. if you get any enjoyment out of riding and/or tinkering with it; it's well worth it. Crude as my first attempts were on my Traveller 15+ years ago - they were my first foray into bike mechanics and it's all knowledge gained. Even if I was using the wrong tools. Better buggering up a cheap bike than a fancy one :D

Wow, she's got good triceps...she's holding that out horizontally with no arm flex at all...

Is it just me, or does the bike she's holding have a Columbus sticker on it??

It looks like one to me!
My Superlite is 4130 Cro-Mo - a Columbus frame would be a bit special.

Certainly looks like a Columbus decal, and not like a Tange Champion # 2 decal. I suspect the bike the girl is holding is some US Nishiki Pro Team model in Columbus (and probably built in Italy, not Japan). Interestingly the photo has been cropped so that any components that would not match the Olympic 12 spec given are not visable. The grey framed bike in the lower left appears to be an Olympic 12.

Hmmm, yes. That ornate fork crown lug was never on any Repco I've seen :roll:

The gear shift mount was something that SunTour/Shimano experimented with - two levers on one mount on the back of the tube - aero advanteges I guess :lol:

Now that Peter has mentioned the cropping and the other bike, it's pretty clear that the bike the model is holding is a very different beast. The rear wheel clearance on the grey frame is quite different to one in the glamour shot.

My first road bike was a Repco Superlite. I now wished I had kept it.

Plenty of them still around. I've picked up two or three in reasonable nik (and overlooked a few others) off hard rubbish collections in the past year

They don't do hard rubbish in Canberra. And you aren't allowed to collect off the tip face as they have contracted that out to companies which charge you for reusable items.

Out of curiosity, my old repco had this sticker attached, 535 Cr Mo

I know about the good stuff like 531, etc, but what was the deal with 535?
Is it good stuff, bad stuff or just (as I suspect) regular stuff?

Yeah, she's definately four better than the other stuff. A keeper for sure. The only problem you've got is decals. As do we all.

Edit: OK, so I haven't got a clue. She's definatley still a keeper though.

Yeah, That did seem weird. I just assumed people were shorter in the late 80s and early 90's so a 56cm bike is size "giant" :lol: :lol:

It was the one sticker I wanted to either keep or find a reproduction of, not because I thought 535 was anything spesh, just it looked neat.

There is a before and after pic of the bike on fixed/SS section, all the repco stickers were a give away that it was indeed a Repco, although there was an "oakley" sticker on it too, rare repco giant frogskin perhaps :wink:

If we can find a smaller frame (48 ) for my wife I would be happy. She wants to get into cycling and a superlite would be perfect.
