You can buy a Repco Preset, brand new from Big W for between $79 and $99 so to pay $125 for a Spectra in poor condition sounds just a tad rich. On second thoughts using these gas pipe creations for fixie conversion is not a bad idea as it might save a quality bike from a fate almost as bad as death.drubie wrote:Well...The Repco Spectra is a fairly nasty piece of work (stamped dropouts etc) and ordinarily you'd use it as a garden decoration but as a fixie candidate they're not bad (my ghetto fixie is a red/white/black spectra). It's no worse than than the Repco single speed you can buy brand new in Big W at the moment.Hamster wrote: I'm thinking rusty gas pipe.

If that's the case, I'm going to buy every crappy Graecross and Repco Spectra in sight, braze on some rear disk mounts that'll last about half an hour in service and put the rattle-canned result back on ebay for $500 a pop. I'm gonna be the cixie king!munga wrote:nobody's building fixies anymore. that's so this year.

It would be interesting to see the gruppo on this.
I'm thinking it is a 'badged' Bianchi, the price tends to confirm it.
Only down the Goldie, if I was in the market for another bike (other than the one I'm in the market for now), it's probably worth a call & a trip down to check it out, you just never know, it could be something that's been in the house for 20/30 years or more & the person just thinks it can't be worth much being an 'old' bike.

Is that your Monday farm bike or your Tuesday farm bike, loch?ldrcycles wrote:I have a Graecross Legacy mtb set up as a single speed that i use for a farm bike, and it's not too bad. I'd crawl over a thousand graecross bikes to get to a single huffy. The graecross MTB I owned was the nastiest BSO ever made. It wasn't even straight, it weighed 4 tonnes and made me sad just to look at it.ldrcycles wrote:I have a Graecross Legacy mtb ... I've ridden much worse.

Guess there'll be a few here from Sydders watching this. Could be just a homie with a biggish fleabay score, but also could be an opportunistic on-seller.
Interesting bicycle. Improve appearance 100% by removing all reflectors, to start. Look like the old Araya rims I had on the Viscount, in the 70s.

I don't think so, in the last week (or so), I've picked up this little lot-
Shim 6oo F & R derailleurs- $42
Shim 500 F & R calipers- $25
Mirage R derailluer- $35
Nouvo F derailluer- $15
Shim 105 (1st series) D/T shifters, calipers & levers- $28
All prices are delivered & in Aussie dollars, unusual for me, I haven't bought 1 Suntour part over the last 2 weeks.
Not buying much stuff until late Feb now (unless I find some bargain priced SS Pro gear as I think I only have 1.5 Superbe Pro gruppos in stock), then I'll be hunting for some more bits & pieces.
What I am liking is the 7700 indexed setup I've fitted to the Vertex, if I can find a few more gruppos at a good price, I may convert a few of my other bikes to it (thinking that a MS Kenetic or Rep Vantage touring bikes would look the goods with DA gruppo fitted to them).
Next purchase will be Benotto number 2.

If it's a genuine one then it's pretty close to the money, I think if you got it for a bit under $200 & the drivetrain worked, the wheels weren't buckled beyond repair, then it's a pretty good buy.
If I wanted a Bianchi, I reckon I would have called him & be on my way down there to negotiate, right now.
