Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got!The centre pull brakes are Suntour Tourneys and were originally on the bike, the derailleurs are Shimano 105 from my parts bin with the original Suntour friction shifters. Its a bit of a mixed bag but rides well and looks the part.
Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got!
Within the limits of my eyesight the frame looks a lot like my Malvern Star XX I will put piccys up later but the XX has very distinctive unusual frame Lugs with really long butresses. But this can only be detected if looked at closely, especially on a frame that is a dark shade of paint. but my XX did have Shimano Tourney side-pulls and Shimano 600 bar end shifters. Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got!
Thanks ldrcycles for the encouragement. Despite the low-end frame I decided to perservere with the old Morrison frame and after a rattle-can paint job, I'm pretty happy with it. So two months later here are the before and after pics (black bike donated the componets and orange one was stripped and used on the bike). ![]() ![]() ![]() So as a recap, Morrison (late 70's or early 80's frame, plain steel) frame , Shimano 600 RD, FD and hubs, Suntour Superbe brakes and Sugino Maxy triple crank. This was my first restoration project and aside from the seat and post and consumables (chain, cables, tyres etc) all parts were picked up in a council clean-up. I've taken for the 30K ride into the city - rides well. Thanks for all the help from those on this thread. Joe
Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got!well it looks awesome, Joe. love the cranks especially.

Also good for keeping bugs off you. It’s more like our thoughts are thinking us than we are thinking them.
Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got!
yeah jasey, you'd be doing at least 60 on this bad boy!
Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got!Is there much difficulty getting at the shifter Jase, it looks like your kids legs would be fairly close.\
I'm not looking to build anything like that myself (although would look a sight with my 26 y.o son on the bars), just looks to be rather challenging to change gears.
Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got!hahah, dont think ill be going that fast with the granny gearing!
wal, yeh DT shifter is a definitely a reach, but this build was more of a mock build using parts from the parts bin. Thumb shifters is on the plan for the 'proper' build. I just wanted to see how it felt to ride with the boy up front, knee clearence, etc. To be honest for my riding with the little boy, its mainly bike paths and just cruising speed, dont really intend on long journeys where ill need a full range of gearing. A single speed would have worked as well, but i had to make do with what i had, so 1x6 indexed shiting with a verge find 105 group had to suffice
Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got! Finally got this old girl up and running.
It is a Jim Bundy, 531 tubing, with 27.0 seatpost. She is about 57 c-c seat tube and 56 c-c top tube. Originally was running 27" rims, but i've put 700s on. Lots of space for a mudguard in there now Decked out with full Shimano 600 groupset running 7 speed. Mostly 6403 series. Cranks are 6400, but they are 175mm. It has the elusive long reach brakes on too. Rims are 36 spoke Wolber GTX running on 600 hubs. I was going to go the black bar tape, saddle and brake outer, but found out that i didn't have any black brake outer on hand here at home, so went with the white tape, outer and saddle (San Marco Trans Am). I don't mind it but would have preferred black. Took her for a 50k ride this morning and she went well (don't know about me though cheers ![]() ![]() ![]()
Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got!thats a nice looking steed dj!!!! Looking fine! you need DA ax group on there it seems
Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got!Very nice. I've never seen 6400 57mm reach brakes. I didn't think they existed.

Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got!
Thanks mate, a bit dirty after the ride as there was a few k of dirt. Would be nice to have a DA ax group, but the 600 was what i had. I did buy the cranks and the brakes though as i like 175s and i needed the extra reach in the brakes. Hopefully i'll throw a few more on here soon if i get time in the next week to finish them off. Lots of other jobs round the house too but
Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got!
Yeah, i'd heard about them but had never seen them. I ended up getting lucky with a guy in Germany on ebay. I'll try and take a front on pic of them.

Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got! This is a Centurion ladies MTB that I just re-painted and converted to more of a retro cruising around bike for my wife. Tange cr-mo frame. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Re: You beauty - let everyone see what you've got!Picked up a bulk lot of three bikes this week on the Bay, really only wanted one but he wouldn't split them.
One was a Europa hi-ten roady, one an unmarked but reasonably light rando style thing with canti brakes, both should tidy up well enough to pass on. The third was this one. Reynolds 531 tubes with Suntour dropouts, Shimano Golden Arrow shifters and cranks, Suntour Superbe front and rear derailleurs. No serial number or stamped markings anywhere on the frame, makes me think it might have been a handbuilt job. Any idea where this might have come from, or how it could be identified? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
