Ugh! Eeeeasy stomach ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: Ugly Bikes
Great effort to make what may have been a sexy retro bike into something you'd be ashamed to be seen dropping off at the tip, someone should buy it, restore it to it's former glory & whack the current owner in the head for doing that to a bike.
Re: Ugly BikesYes a nasty way to treat a bike........but then I can see some practical advantages.........such as the paint damage to the top tube from securing the bike with a rough piece of chain reducing the chances of it being pinched.
The cut down handle bars make for a nice aero riding position, and would make it easier to store the bike in a narrow hallway or behind the washing machine........and I particularly like the neatly rolled up left over cable from the front brake as you never know when that may come in handy.
Re: Ugly Bikes
Didn't see the brake cable stash, greyhoundtom. That's ugly gold! Imagine how ugly the owner is. ![]()
Re: Ugly BikesI reckon the whole deal is a pi$$take..... and you've all had the pi$$ taken
Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Re: Ugly Bikes
That is proof that beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. Jones Spaceframes and their truss forks are one of the most lusted over in the world. Jones waiting list is months (maybe years now) long. Quality, not quantity.
Re: Ugly Bikes![]() One of the worst color schemes I have ever seen. Incredibly they are even worse in real life. Consistently terrible paint jobs seems to be Colnago's Raison detre.
Re: Ugly BikesDon't be so cruel! I have a Koga Miyata and it's the BEST bike for hilly urban transport with heavy grocery etc loads.
Re: Ugly Bikes
Nothing wrong with the bike, but if you have your stem/handlebars set up like that .... Andrew
Re: Ugly Bikes
I do have the butterfly handle bars, albeit more horizontal, and that's part of what's great about the ride. Initially my reaction was like yours, but I now prefer them to any other handlle bars beacuse of the infinite hand positions. Only problem is I don't know how to attach a mirror without compromising the handle bar's functionality...

And what about coaster brakes? bychosis (bahy-koh-sis): A mental disorder characterised by symptoms, such as delusions or hallucinations, that indicate impaired contact with reality not containing bicycles.

Nice welding! I've noticed that most photos in this thread don't have an ugly background, despite the ugliness of the foreground objects. ![]()

Re: Ugly Bikes
Do you have a link? How does a helmet mirror work? Thanks
Re: Ugly Bikes
In keeping with the theme of the bike you could just bolt a truck mirror on the side of the fork..........(lots of sarcasm intended & yes I am a wanna-be lycra racer boy mamil) Gas propulsion.......it's natural don't fight it.
Re: Ugly Bikes
Perhaps I am overly cynical, but I thought munga was gently teasing you - eg bikesnob says "The helmet mirror is perhaps one of the dorkiest cycling accessories, second only to the reflective vest". As for a helmet mirror, would you prefer ![]() ![]() or ![]() I was going to buy a fast, stylish bike, but I looked in the mirror & thought "you're not fooling anyone, you know"
Re: Ugly Bikes
That's not hard
Thanks
