A tough week, I signed up not feeling 100% confident that I'd complete the total.
Good luck to everyone still trying to get it done!

Also good to see an Aussie leading the pack(1304km).
Geoff Parker, Anyone know him? Bloody huge effort, I hope he holds onto top spot.
I have managed 5 rides now;
Christmas Eve 100km, Vintage Alan Cyclocross, 20km off road
Boxing Day 75km, Road bike
Friday 120km, Road bike
Saturday 50km, Vintage Alan Cyclocross
Sunday 107km Road bike
452km thus far
48km to go.
I may go out and complete the 48 this arvo depending on how I feel and the weather. Otherwise will do tomorrow.
Cheers
Sambo

I went so hard I cut short my long ride and headed back 64 km done.
Then rode with my two boys up the rail trail to Drysdale and back for an easy 33km, making 97km for the day and 472 so far.

So day#7 - 100.3km - Torquay to Lorne - perfect day for a ride, nice and cool and overcast to start with.....not too much traffic on the way to Lorne.....sun came out and so did the traffic, the return was quite hectic leaving Lorne, around Fairhaven, Aireys and Anglesea !
Felt surprisingly good.....bum aches.....
Total 605km.....
Might squeeze in a little ride tomorrow......I think there's a Strava segment near me I should be able to get in my velomobile !

Was car chaos up there by the time I got there, which would of been about 11am. Did (a version of) the crucifix for the first time today and got to the turn off from the tourist rd to Sky High and almost ended up in the back of a car, a woman was reversing back out the wrong way onto the main rd having taken a wrong turn or something, luckily I was on a bike and could squeeze past the outside.jules21 wrote:well i'm done! rode out to the dandenongs and managed my first VAM of over 1000 up the wall. the place is teeming with riders, most of them racers.

I'm really looking forward to next month's challenge and working on my climbing which is pretty weak at the moment.

After a couple of days I thought that there was no way I'd make the total but after a cruisy 50km followed by a great ride out to Maroota (130km) I was back on track and made it with time to spare. I must say I'm feeling it in the saddle interface region now, have to find some of the Aussie Bum Cream samples that I was given at Fitz's.
I think I'll have a bit of a rest for a couple of days and then try to make the most of the new found form in my legs.

I probably did those extra 5kms or more but it was racing on the velodrome and I didn't have the garmin on the track bike last night. Mind you, racing with 570km in my legs, including 80 that morning, meant I wasn't in top form.
Nor was getting up this morning and doing the final 125km. Probably should have ridden round the block but ... it's just a round number
A moderate bit of climbing in that, over 7,000km, as I was using this as a serious training block for the Alpine Classic Extreme in a few weeks.
Best achievement: I managed to ride on Christmas Day AND Boxing Day and still cater the family Christmas at my place with overnight guests. Made my brother come along for an early morning ride on Boxing Day.
Thanks to everyone who rode with me. And a big congratulations to anyone who met this challenge. It's a big effort and now I really appreciate how big.

Well done all.

Congratulations Eleri, I was watching your total during the challenge, well done that is an impressive amount of riding!Eleri wrote:I'm done now and at 695km, just shy of recording 700.

Good to see a decent number of women achieving this challenge, the last I looked there were around 100 ladies who had completed it.

I finished my year today with a crazy ride. The ride was a relatively uninspiring (flat) 208.2 km but my Garmin told me that the average temp. on the bike was 42 degrees. (Max. in Perth today was 42.1 deg.)
This was following last night's effort of 207.5 km finishing just after midnight and the previous night's effort of 178.2 km finishing just before midnight. My official Rapha total was 802 km but I didn't log 87km on Strava 'cause I was a bit slow getting my new Garmin out of the box.

Amazing as always! I started my final ride a bit late this morning (5 am) and didn't get back until 10:30 am. I got a bit sunburned which was my first sunburn for the festive 500.cavebear2 wrote:Well done to everyone who had the resolve to achieve this.
