Recumbent Team for Lake Wendouree Classic,
Postby stevenurseau » Wed Dec 19, 2012 9:56 pm
Just new to this group but have been part of ozHpv for several years....
Have just signed up a team for the Lake Wendouree Cycle Classic, Sunday Feb 10 2013 - as many laps as a 12 person team (with 4 riders on the course at a time) can do in 2 hours and a bit. Inviting Participants on recumbents.
Information: http://www.ballaratcycleclassic.com.au/ ... hp?page=12" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You will need to enter the team code when signing up and the basic cost is $20.00
Team code: ste236 Team Name: Steve's slowpokes.
Despite the name, we could end up being the fastest team as was the case a few years ago when John Reynoldson organised a team.

Each lap is 6km, dead flat, fast corners and on a recumbent you won't need to worry about the tram track crossing we roadies have to watch, can get a bit of wind depending...DoogleDave wrote:I'm pretty sure THIS is the relay course.Riggsbie wrote:

How fast do you think you can crank them up to over that sort of distance?

My guess is it'll be the road. Going faster than about 10-12 kph on the shared path would mean closing it to foot traffic, and I don't see that being effectively enforced.

Hi, I've been in this ride about 4 times and its not crowded or dangerous. The ride is on the road which is wide enough to overpass easily. There can be a bit of congestion at the start but once that's over its ok. Its not a race, there are no sheepstations to win, everybody rides reasonably and its all going one way so there are no real issues.
Only one sign up sofar but more needed (Thanks Ray)

Worst case it'll be on the Vortex, if I can sort out a trailer or van I can bring the Mango !
Anyone asked Ben Goodall to come along ? Be a good excuse to show off a new carbon RotoVelo !

Hi Mike
Its a bit under a month to go and we have 3 on the team, maximum on the team is 10. Any more entries most welcome! If you're thinking of joining I reckon you should maybe just register and contemplate which machine to ride at a later time.
To promote the event and have a bit of a get together & training I propose a couple of "pre-spon" rides the weekend before the event on Feb 2 and 3. Meet Cafe Racer in st Kilda 8am, we ride to Mordialloc and back, slightly further if the mood takes us. On the Sunday we meet up with Rob W's Be Spon ride from St Kilda pier.

As for a "pre-spon" ride in Melbourne, I'm in a similar boat to Riggsbie. I've not tried to fit the Kodiak in the wagon, but I'm pretty sure the velo (my preferred vehicle) won't fit, so I'd need another form of transport, and getting to Melbourne by 8am would be a miraculous feat in my household. Any chance a training ride could be here in Ballarat around the actual lake track? (I realize thats unlikely, just putting it out there.)

Hi Mike, get enough people signed up (maybe 3 0r 4 more) and I'll come up by train for a practice run by train no worries.
Reply off line in you like, steve(at)modularbikes.com.au
The training runs I proposed are ones I often do on a weekend!

Which bike I use if dependent on transport to get there.....worst case it'll be on my Vortex, maybe my Mango Sport if I can borrow a van.....
Also dependent of my health as my back is messing me around right now......lots of phantom pain in my legs........

Europcar support cycling and have a van that would be suitable. About $100 a day I think to hire. I want to see the video of the mango toasting everyoneRiggsbie wrote:Worst case it'll be on the Vortex, if I can sort out a trailer or van I can bring the Mango !

Get one and you'll see it everyday (AKA real time eye vision) on the flats, especially if you're punching into headwindsAushiker wrote: I want to see the video of the mango toasting everyone

Think I have managed to find another rider, a mega fit mountain biker and road rider I ride with a lot.....he has always wanted a go on my Vortex so I made a deal with him, so we should be 5 now !
So JP will be on my Vortex, think I have snaffled a Transit for the 10th as well ( so should be able to bring the Mango), just need to hope my back is ok !

It is coming, well slowly ... nibbling away at the Minister of Finance but if she will not give an inch I am looking at a 3rd quarter 2013 order. Just have to dream till then.Rhubarb wrote:Get one and you'll see it everyday (AKA real time eye vision) on the flats, especially if you're punching into headwindsAushiker wrote: I want to see the video of the mango toasting everyone

I hope that it gets better too. If it's not faring too well, I'm sure there are a few people on this forum that would be happy to ride in your place. I'm sure that a few day's notice is sufficient to organise flights etc.Riggsbie wrote:just need to hope my back is ok !
