2013 Heraldsun Tour

Postby warthog1 » Fri Jan 04, 2013 3:59 pm

A few dodgy iphone photos. The first ones from the steepest part of the climb at KOM2 on one tree hill. It was a hot day today and the riders had done over 130 km to this point and had climbed Mt Macedon already. There was pain on the faces and some were well off the back and cooked.

A tough day in the saddle - I was out in the foothills of Mt Macedon at 8 am this morning & it was already hot with a ripping northerly blowing
It doesn't get easier, you just get slower

Felt sorry for the British riders. From a Northern Winter straight into the Southern Hemisphere Summer and a hot Northerly  Hope they've been here a little while to acclimatise a bit.

Was at the velodrome for the finish. The heat was brutal just watching let alone racings. Props to everyone that got across the line.

Matt Goss was another that was in Europe 5days ago with temps just above freezing to today. He said on twitter his comp hit 45 on the road.

bah... I was walking round London in a hoodie today, so it's more like a mild northern spring into a blazing hot summer :P

What's the reason they are using normal bikes for the time trial stage?

Couldn't find anything that says why.

Looks extremely hot out there!

Probably so they don't have to lug extra bikes out for a single 5 k event

Probably is mild compared to some of those mad conditions you ride in!

Thanks makes sense given it such a short time trial.

There is some rule saying they can't use TT rigs or TT bars for the prologue. Read/heard it somewhere but I forgot where.

My guess is it is to keep costs down of for any small budget teams entering.

This is correct and also creates on of the problem the event has had with maintaining it's UCI rating

Couple of nasty crashes from last nights stage... Saw one zip front rim completely snapped in half!
