"Universe" road bike.

Postby xerlex » Sat Jan 05, 2013 8:37 pm

I picked this up as frame, fork and headset off ebay months ago and finally got it finished today. The frame is super nice but I doubt it's a Universe as branded (the seller I got it off was Universe/Bikeology), probably Japanese built. Other than the Shimano dropouts and Tange stamp on the steerer it's got no serial number or other marks to give any clues as to who built it.

Anyhoo, parts include Tange headset, SR Royal stem and post, Alps bars, Cinelli Unicantor, Dia Compe brakes, Sugino Mighty cranks, Suntour Cyclone shifters/mechs, Sunshine Pro-Am hubs.

The SR stuff doesn't seem to get as much love as it should IMO, but I love an obscure (or semi obscure) part.

That's very nice!
I agree the smaller Asian component manufacturer's like SR, Sugino and Sunshine are not given enough respect by most folks. Sunshine hubs especially are up there with the best.

Nice bike, and adding my weight to the general sentiment. The seatpost and stem are a nice bit of kit and look fantastic.
