Trek Titanium Road Bike...?

Postby greenplastic » Thu Jan 10, 2013 12:43 am

Can anyone tell me what model this bike is...?

I have been searching high and low but can't find a TI Trek anywhere..?!

I'm looking into purchasing my first road bike for social rides on the weekend and would like to know a bit more about it before I ask about seeing it...

Its a trek 1500 in discovery colours. Looks like a nice bike, in original condition and since its a relatively small one, frame and wheels are probably ok. I found the same wheelset troublesome for me, but I'm too big for them.

IMO about $150 over priced for typical old 105 10 alloy bikes, so it comes down to whether you want the team paintjob and brandname for the money or not.

Its an aluminum alloy frame, with a carbon fork. Not uncommon for gumtree ads to make extravagant claims.

Ok that's good to know- thank you!

Would it be a good place to start my journey into road bikes? Any other recommendations?

First I've heard of a Trek in Ti :? I thought Al and cf were their thing...

Looks pretty neat, but agree with Zero about the price.

The main recommendation is to figure out what frame size is the right frame size for you. That bike wouldn't be too bad, if (a) it is the right size for you and (b) you had some of the overprice part of the money spare for a service or to keep in case something fails. No warranty on it.

This bike hasn't had its stem cut down, so it should be straightforward to adjust the fit of it later a bit - note that its all in photo currently set as big as possible.

Trek have NEVER produced a Titanium bike. 1500 is the bottom of the range alloy.

The only Trek titanium bike I know of was a rebadged Litespeed Blade (time trial bike) which was painted in USPS team colours and used by LA at the TdF in 1999. The bike pictured is not a time trial bike.
