WTB ADL: Shogun Metro bike or frame

Postby rebelcontender » Sun Jan 13, 2013 9:22 am

Hi All. Looking to buy a late 90's, early 00's Steel rigid Shogun Metro.

Looking for a large frame (I Think they where 20" from memory) Would prefer a complete bike but would also take a frame.

My ideal choice would be the model from around 2000/2001 which was a nice moss green and had mostly Acera components. One popped up on Gumtree last week that looked perfect but it was gone within hours, its the quick or the dead it seems.

thanks

Yep, I picked this up yesterday afternoon.
Has a mainly Acera groupset with some average Shimano rivetted chainring cranks.
PM me if you're interested want more details on it.

I'm in two minds about rebuilding it so if I get a reasonable offer I'd probably let it go.

Was that just a frameset on eBay?
If so think I looked at it several times but really wanted to see one in person.

There is a guy in Melburn that has a couple of framesets. This was too cheap to passover.

I've got a large frameset and stem but it is more like 24" or 61cm c-c on the down tube. Would that be too big?

Not sure if you mean down tube or seat tube.
The Metro SE I have is 50cm C-C seat tube, 63cm C-C downtube and 57cm C-C top tube.
Also has a 1-1/8" threaded fork and 135mm rear spacing.

There is another Shogun Metro on Gumtree now but has 1" threaded fork and is an AT model not an SE.
Could also mean that is has 130mm rear spacing so a good option for a road commuter/light tourer.

Can you confirm the rear spacing?
I'm guessing it looks like this one on Gumtree.
The description says 6 speed which leads me to think 126mm rear spacing but I guess it could be cold set to 130mm.

Thanks, Saw that one last night, unfortunately its a little to big at a 57cm seat tube (22.4 inches!) will be a nice bike for a taller fella

Theres one more on gumtree, a green one in the southern suburbs. I text the guy as per the advertisment instructions to ask him to check the frame size sticker (I can see it in pics but not read it) but he got annoyed saying the ad states its a "26" mens bike. hmmm might be confusing it with a MTB wheel size there.

I can't fathom how someone trying to sell something (expecially at a rather premium price for that bike) couldnt be bothered following through with a simple request like that.

Thanks to all who have messaged/posted in aid of my Shogun quest :)

Hard to say, a wise man once told me something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. They are great practical bikes but hardly a 'classic'. Id be thinking $100 to $150 for an average one but id spend up to $200ish for a pearler.

great bikes, have a 93 Metro SE. with panniers

a tad heavy (with 40mm CX tyres), and with crazy top tube to seat tube ratio, ive put a function over form stem on it to make it relaxed ride, but works very well, and quickish when in the drops.

not my main bike but practical, and fairly quick all the same

sweet Metro. Ive decided to keep mine flat bar for now. needs a new shifter so ive put in an order for some kit including sks guards. new 32t cassette and m324 pedals. might start a build thread in the shed forum.
