EOI "Retro Riders" jerseys

Postby munga » Sun Jan 13, 2013 9:52 pm

i designed some jerseys a while ago for myself and some mates, and over the last few months, we've had enough positive comments on them to warrant this thread, namely, would you be interested in buying one?

we've also had a venge rider with a few less than positive comments, but they were more about the statement on the back, rather than the design 8)

we've been using ours at least weekly for about 3-4 months and they're still holding up as well as any other jersey. full zip, nice light fabric, sharp printing.

would anyone out there be interested in a jersey for about $65 - $75?

if you haven't seen the jerseys, here's a couple of photos from the Queensland "Retro Riverloop Raturdays" thread.

not sure what else you would like to know, so if you have any questions, post away!

ps: i had a yarn to Christopher, and he's given me his blessing to post this on his forum.
who knows, he might even buy one himself! 8)

For 75 I'm in for two jerseys 150 would be bargain.

but really, that's rubbish. We get none of it because the choices are illusory.

Gezez, what a handsome bunch!

1 for me please, sir.

Yeah, I imagine I'd cop some sniffs/snorts from the Turra Pelo when they zoom past. If they're smart, they'll realise Retro = don't care.
Well, no, it's not a pushbike, otherwise I'd be pushing it...

thanks for the positive responses so far, guys. i was pretty nervous about the whole design, but now that i've seen it in the flesh, i think it turned out pretty well!

familyguy: well, because i designed them, and i love pulp fiction, i put jules and vincent on the collar.
on the other side of the collar is another small logo, probably not visible in the pics.
i anticipate that most would be neither here nor there on both, so i will probably remove them for this round, and add a small "2013 bna crew' type motif.

it looks like there's going to be enough interest to justify the effort, so i'll get to work fine tuning the artwork, and will put up a purchase template.
it takes about 3 weeks from signing off the proof to delivery, then another few days for me to bag each jersey and send them out.
all the details (sizing, how, what, when, who, etc) will be posted in the next week or two, so if you want one, save your pennies and anticipate a february kickoff.

in the meantime, keep the comments coming, and let me know if you want one.

My only comment regarding the design is that the rider on the back obscures the E's in steel and real a bit too much. I'd shrink him down a smidge like so:

Just my opinion, will buy either way.

Did you ask if they'd worked out how to fix the spelling mistake on their bike?

after getting smashed on the hill, he's resorted to compliments or staring straight ahead.

cray- nice idea, i'll add it to the ideas of my own regarding the font and the rider. never been especially happy with the font type (it's the same font nike use), and how the rider covers the 'IS' almost completely.

also, you can check out my photobucket for an alternative version of artwork for the back. 8)

Didn't even notice the "IS" hiding under the rider. I tried it with the I to the left and the S to the right of the rider but it looked crap, like a letter was missing underneath him.

The alternate design is quite good but the wearer would definitely need the legs to back up the hate, rules me out.

Apropos the disappearing 'IS', munga, maybe a tint-back of the rider/bike. Even 50~60% would allow the 'IS' to come through. Don't imagine in today's digital workflows it would too much of an issue. :|

... on further staring at it, not quite as simple as I make out. Just got to decide about overprints and knockouts.... to get the effect you want. But may be a Compound Path thing to be done. Not rocket science for a competent designer, or jobbing screen-printer, really. As has been noted, it's lost right now.

Munga,
What size are these? (I'm 6ft 4'' tall & 44cm in a shirt)
=>> Provided a suitable size is a available I'm in for two.

I like Cray's idea of not obscuring the E's in Steel and Frailer5's suggestion of grey scaling the rider so the "IS" becomes more evident. It's is the key message.

Still staring. here's 2 bob's worth at the end. :)

Rider/bike down to 90% (in size).
Outline the font on the 'IS'. The font nazis won't approve, but it's partly obscured anyway. Then stretch the outline laterally a bit, so the 'I' pokes out to the left if the rider a bit.
The rider would 'knock out' the lettering, and show at say 50~60% (of tint). The font stretch won't be noticed in the composite image, IMO.

I'll see if I can mock up what I mean in Illustrator tomorrow. .(at work, of course :D )

Hey bro,

If you decide to do a run of the walternate rear graphics, let me know when you see me, I'm still tempted to get it & wear it commuting.

Oh & yep it will annoy the crappers out of the modern bike tyres, but hey it ain't my fault they ain't got no sense of humour.

the artwork will modified to my tastes, and a 'take it or leave it' affair, so please save your creative energy.
don't mean to offend, but as soon as you offer something like this, everyone wants to tweak it.
