Re: Cyclist hit after dismounting and walking across the roaRode through there not 3 mins prior to this happening. Then had a couple of ambulances go by further up the road. Hope the young fella is ok and makes a full recovery. The article I read indicated otherwise though sadly, in surgery critical condition. Best wishes and hope he pulls through
Re: Cyclist hit after dismounting and walking across the roa
Same here. According to the QPS it happened at 6.15. I went through at 6.11. I peeled off Gympie Road onto Samsonvale Road to Station road to head back south. Heading past the Aldi at Carseldine ambo after ambo went screaming past on the Gympie Arterial road. It explains why the southbound traffic was limited to a handful of cars (6 in total Hopefully the kid pulls though. Only 19 years old
Re: Cyclist hit after dismounting and walking across the roaThat's a real shame. Hope he will recover.
Poor guy. How could this happen? Dismounting and crossing the road on foot is supposed to be the safe and right thing to do. Trek Madone 4.5, Giant TCR Advanced SL3 ISP Di2 (the green machine)
Re: Cyclist hit after dismounting and walking across the roa

Re: Cyclist hit after dismounting and walking across the roa
Pure speculation of course, but was he wearing cleated road cycling shoes? If so, it's easy to slip or mis-judge the speed and time one can make a certain distance. RIP. Bianchi, Ridley, Montague, GT, Garmin and All things Apple
Re: Cyclist hit after dismounting and walking across the roa
The article doesn't say, but apparently he WAS wearing his helmet. Shame that didn't make it all ok in the end. Condolences to family and friends. What is it with cycling? 30+ kmh and lycra???!!!
Re: Cyclist hit after dismounting and walking across the roa
Damn. Sad to hear about that. RIP.
Indeed that was me. Ah yes Railway Ave. Station Road is beside Lawnton station.
Could be anything really as there aren't that many details released this early in time. The only public details are that he was only just 19 years old, a cyclist (crusier, bmx, mtb, roadie), wearing a helmet and might have been using a crossing facility.
Re: Cyclist hit after dismounting and walking across the roaI fail to see how walking a bike is safer for anyone other than pedestrians. Try doing anything in a hurry whilst hanging onto a bike other than riding it or CX which is a discipline and requires practice. Walking a bike across a road is in my view more dangerous (potentially) for the cyclist, cleats or not.
