SR EPS Front Derailer

Postby Krank » Sat Jan 19, 2013 10:00 am

Hi.

I see braze on and clamp on for the SR EPS Front Derailer.

I have just purchased the SR EPS Front Derailer from Wiggle, but do not know if I need braze on or clamp on.

What circumstances dictate which method of clamping I need for my Oltre XR frameset?

How do I tell the difference?

Does the SR EPS Front Derailer come in 2 choices - clamp on and brazeon?

Does the frame you will fit the derailleur to have a derailleur mount or not. That is what dictates the choice.

If it has a mount, then you need a braze-on derailleur. If not you need a clamp on, and may also need to specify the clamp diameter.

Can't advise about the Oltre, but I suspect it will have an irregular downtube profile so will likely have a mount.

Note that if you get s braze-on, you can usually buy a clamp separately. So if in doubt get a braze-on.

BTW, have you been getting into the barra?

No mount on the frame.

I will liaise with Wiggle and get some more info.

Barra very slow for last few months, as the WET season has only just begun here with light monsoon stuff.

We have been trying hard for barra, but our last barra was November last year...

OK, the EPS derailleur may be multi-fit. You can probably find out on the Campy site.

Once the monsoon starts you will need a water bike.

this is what campag site stated for the front derailer:

"Welded with clampon kit Ø32, 35mm".

Too me, ambiguous - perhaps you can clarify...??

What it is saying is that the derailleur is braze-on with clamp kits for 32mm and 35mm seat tubes.

You should be pretty safe ordering it. If Bianchi uses some other size tube they would surely have included a braze-on mount.
