Crack?Hi experts!
Was cleaning the bike today and noticed this crack just below the rear wheel arch. Cause for concern? ![]() ![]() n=8 (2011 road, 2004 road, 2010 track, 2009 foldup, 1990 hybrid, 1992 indoor trainer, 2007 road now a rental, 1970's step through)
Re: Crack? If it was mine I'd be back at the shop and/or asking the manufacturer.

but really, that's rubbish. We get none of it because the choices are illusory.
Re: Crack?
It's the seatstay not the fork.
Re: Crack?Thanks all,
Yes, carbon seatstay. When I noticed it I was concerned, the more I look at it the worse I think it is. I'll be contacting the manufacturer via the bike shop and putting it aside until I know how to proceed. May give me an excuse to strip and rebuild it once it's repaired or replaced! Re: Crack?I wouldn't panic, looks like its in the paint but definitely get it checked for your own peace of mind.

Re: Crack?Just got a message back from the shop. Box it up and send it back, looks like its a replacement
Going to miss the paint job on this frame, it was very sharp. ![]() n=8 (2011 road, 2004 road, 2010 track, 2009 foldup, 1990 hybrid, 1992 indoor trainer, 2007 road now a rental, 1970's step through)
Re: Crack?
Look on the bright side, your sunny side might not have looked to shinny had it let go!... At least you have a shop who are doing the right thing and getting it sorted. There are a few out there who don't. 2013 Bupa Challange at the Tour Downunder - 25th of Jan 2013 - Raising money for the Cancel Council - bit.ly/YzLYG3

Re: Crack?Care to name the brand? As if they are replacing it then that's pretty good service... Looked to me as it was probably just a superficial paint crack, but u can never be sure..,
Re: Crack? The frame has been shipped back to the shop, they will forward it into the factory for assessing. I'll name the shop and brand once I know more. Will take a few weeks.
What I will say is that it is an overseas brand, at the time they did not distribute to Australia thus I had to go overseas to the brand's preferred shop and order through them. Perhaps paying RRP and buying from country of origin may account for the good service thus far. ![]() n=8 (2011 road, 2004 road, 2010 track, 2009 foldup, 1990 hybrid, 1992 indoor trainer, 2007 road now a rental, 1970's step through)
Re: Crack? Warranty replacement questionHi all,
A small update on the frame. They have offered a replacement! Good news. However the old parts will be going on the new later model frame which has a different paint scheme, so all the colours will be all over the place. Not a major concern to me as i would rather perform and have an ugly bike than huffing and puffing on a sexy bike... So my question is, should I accept their offer on a frame that is last year's model that has a mismatched paint job? From people's experience have you been able to specify (within reason) choice of frame? Are you able to pay the difference on a current model? I am looking at the current frame (2013) of the same model as the cracked one. Re: Crack?Yes. Rarely. Almost never unless it is available as a frameset only (and it'll usually be more than just 'the difference').
Ours is not to reason why...merely to point and giggle
