SRAM vs Shimano (mtb)Looking at getting a new MTB however not sure about Shimano as I only ride SRAM on the road. MTB I am lookin at is a GT Hans Rey Limited Edition KARAKORAM which comes with Deore and Alivio. I was looking at a SRAM X7 Groupset $500inc postage. Any thoughts on SRAM X7 over Shimano? Is Deore equivilant of X7?
Re: SRAM vs Shimano (mtb)ive got deore xt. my mates got sram x9 and the sram is much nicer.more snappy and looks better.
Re: SRAM vs Shimano (mtb)SRAM X7 is much nicer than Deore. X7 would be closer to SLX.
Where can you get a X7 groupset for $500? I recently got a 10spd XT groupset without brakes from Germany for $440. A groupset with brakes was about $650 from Merlin.
Re: SRAM vs Shimano (mtb)I'm looking at the same bike, looks like a decent value ride, but I would certainly prefer SRAM gears also
Re: SRAM vs Shimano (mtb)^^ since originally commenting..now considering the Zaskar 9R Comp with SRAM
Re: SRAM vs Shimano (mtb)I generally prefer Shimano shifter feel and action, Deore/Alivio are pretty bottom-of-the-barrel though. IMO if you're comparing XT/X7 and up Shimano wins... and if looking at hydro discs any Shimano beats any SRAM.
There are four phases of bicycle commuting; first there's fear, then rage, then self-righteousness and finally, fun.

Re: SRAM vs Shimano (mtb)And any Shimano Hollowtec crankset is better than SRAM.
