SRAM vs Shimano (mtb)
Postby fixedlegs2012 » Fri Jan 18, 2013 8:10 pm
Looking at getting a new MTB however not sure about Shimano as I only ride SRAM on the road. MTB I am lookin at is a GT Hans Rey Limited Edition KARAKORAM which comes with Deore and Alivio. I was looking at a SRAM X7 Groupset $500inc postage. Any thoughts on SRAM X7 over Shimano? Is Deore equivilant of X7?

SRAM X7 is much nicer than Deore. X7 would be closer to SLX.
Where can you get a X7 groupset for $500?
I recently got a 10spd XT groupset without brakes from Germany for $440. A groupset with brakes was about $650 from Merlin.

I'm looking at the same bike, looks like a decent value ride, but I would certainly prefer SRAM gears also

I generally prefer Shimano shifter feel and action, Deore/Alivio are pretty bottom-of-the-barrel though. IMO if you're comparing XT/X7 and up Shimano wins... and if looking at hydro discs any Shimano beats any SRAM.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe

And any Shimano Hollowtec crankset is better than SRAM.
