Hi,
I recently sold a 1980s metallic gun metal grey Clamont 810 on eBay (pic below). The successful bidder bought the bike thinking it was made by Geoff Scott. It doesn't say "Geoff Scott" anywhere on the bike. It has a decal on the seat tube "Made in Japan".
My questions are:
1) Was the tubing or the whole bike made in Japan?
2) Was this bike made by Geoff Scott?
All help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Was my Clamont made by Geoff Scott?

The whole frame was made in Japan. Geoff made custom frames under the same brand but many Clamonts were mass produced.
He made a custom one for me, which was very nice.

Did Clamont not bring in Miyata's under some sort of naming rights deal, too? That may well be a Miyata-built frame.
EDIT: The more I look at it, the more I'm convinced its one of the re-stickered Miyata frames. Probably one of their spline triple butted jobbies. Quality, strong, good condition.

Thread resurrection, Guys I just got this off Gumtree and I was hoping to date the frame. I haven't picked it up yet so I don't know if there are any identifiers, build numbers etc. Does anyone know if Clamont frames were catalogued. Any help appreciated.

Thanks TLL. I did have a look at a couple of 'Clamont' threads this arvo but missed yours. Looks like a wait n see proposition.

Bit of late information on this thread. The successful bidder bought the bike thinking it was a Clamont, because that's how the seller worded the add, and didn't mention in the add that it had "made in Japan" stickers on it, otherwise the buyer would have known straight away that it was not made by Geoff Scott.
