So how's everyone's training going? I've been doing a few long hills and repeats in the last couple of weeks, and did a full temperature test on Sunday (42c) climbing Barrengarry Mt - was slow but it didn't kill me

Either way, I'll be going on the ride - but hoping to get accom closer than an hour away from the start line.
On another topic, training rides will be a bit light on.. best chance I had was last Saturday, 149km including 4 times up Mt Dandenong, about 3500m climbing. Hoping for one more similar ride on one of the weekends in between, and that will be it!
Looking forward to testing myself none the less!

Crikey, if that's light on, I'm positively in negative territory.oldnewby wrote: ...On another topic, training rides will be a bit light on.. best chance I had was last Saturday, 149km including 4 times up Mt Dandenong, about 3500m climbing. ...
What ride are you doing ?

hey MichaelB, I'm having a crack at the 200km.MichaelB wrote:Crikey, if that's light on, I'm positively in negative territory.oldnewby wrote: ...On another topic, training rides will be a bit light on.. best chance I had was last Saturday, 149km including 4 times up Mt Dandenong, about 3500m climbing. ...

by 'light on' I was more meaning that I won't have a chance to do too many more long rides before the Alpine Classic. I suppose my ideal would have been to do another 2 like the one I mentioned, as well as perhaps a flatter ride - trying to get approx 8-10hrs in the saddle on one ride.
I'm definitely not sophisticated in my 'training', but am probably blessed with a little bit of base fitness, so hoping to get through ok!
Which ride are you doing?

My runup has been hampered by some minor health issues in Nov/Dec (colds and torn calf muscle) and house reno's that are eating up time, but i should be OK.
Getting up there Tue afternoon so have some time to scope out the actual rides and see them at least once or twice before the big day.
Hopefully it won't be too hot on the day.

At an intersection I said, "Well, I'll peel off here."
- "Going up the mountain?"
"Yep, gotta get fit for the Alpine Classic."
- "Which one are you doing?"
"The 250."
- "Me too, which start?"
"4:00 a.m."
- "Me too, see you there."

Not easy? Er, no. In fact, probably harder than the event you are training foroldnewby wrote:Last training ride today, 171km and 4200m of climbing. It wasn't easy, but am now feeling a bit more confident about the 200k in a couple weeks.
On Saturday, I did 200 km with 2900 metres of climbing. I think it will be enough - I hope so!

Mine will have to be a LL&B as I don't drink.Daccordi Rider wrote:Don't worry Michael, that's pretty normal, makes the beer at the Brewery taste good. It will be much cooler up the hills!

Not necessarily. I rode up Mt Buffalo last Friday 11th, and it reached 39°C in Bright, and didn't drop below the low 30s at the summit of Mt Buffalo. On the bright side (excuse my little pun), there is a waterfall on the left hand side of the road a bit more than halfway up (I think) which contains beautifully cold water, and I recommend dunking your head under it , because it makes the next several km much more bearable.Daccordi Rider wrote:Don't worry Michael, that's pretty normal, makes the beer at the Brewery taste good. I'll be in Bright this coming Friday, psyching myself up for the ACE 250, and hoping it isn't too hot (or they'll invoke the extreme heat policy).

You've got to feel sorry for both the locals impacted and the fire fighters - it has been hot and windy all day.
