Sub $1,000 WheelsetHi,
I have a Sempre (2012) and am looking to upgrade the wheelset (don't tell the missus). Coming in at a luxurious 105kg I am well aware of the missus (autospell put that in-thought it a bit funny but meant ISSUES) with wheel robustness but literally hate the sound of my Reparto Corsa hub and want to be shot of it. I also feel the wheels flex a bit compared to the ones on my fixy. My old Gary Fisher Sugar 1 has a DT Swiss hub which sounds the goods, hooked up a treat and felt really solid. What I want is a wheel set I can get for sub $1,000, handles my current weight, is good for a weekly minimum of 100 ks and also handles a work commute/extended ride home. I used to love hills on my MTB and am looking to loose some kg's and get busy in the hills again. What is a good wheelset for climbing and commuting and has a decent quality hub (racket preferred) and comes in at sub $1,000. Cheers
Re: Sub $1,000 WheelsetFairly specific wish list, my suggestion is custom build, and by all reports Greg at TWE is the best.

+1. He built mine and I love them (especially the sound)
Re: Sub $1,000 WheelsetShamal Ultras ex Ribble. Been running them for 2,300kms, - 95kg, through very average roads. Straight and true, nice and stiff.
$858 shipped ATM. http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/showPart.asp?part=CAMPWHFR339&bike= ![]()
Re: Sub $1,000 WheelsetI've got a nice set of Shimano C50 tubulars that i will part with if you are interested. I'm the same weight as you. Well under $1000 for good quality Carbon
I ride several bicycles, but not at once.
Re: Sub $1,000 WheelsetI'd recommend a custom build. Mavic CXP33 rim or Kinlin XR300, Chris King or Alchemy hubs, 28 spokes front, 32 rear. This will be a solid wheelset.
Re: Sub $1,000 WheelsetRing Gret at TWE - he will sort you out - brilliant !!
Re: Sub $1,000 WheelsetI would either get Fulcrum Racing 0/1 or custom Kinlin xr300 with white industries hub. *bombproof*
Re: Sub $1,000 WheelsetGo Greg from TWE he will sort you for well under a grand.
Roadie: BeOne Black, SRAM Force, TWE 50mm full carbon clinchers, Vértebrae ceramic cable housings

Re: Sub $1,000 Wheelset
+1 on Fulcrum Racing 1s, 750-800 from ribble. (when i bought late last year)
Re: Sub $1,000 WheelsetI should have Pro-Lite Merano's back in stock in April which would fit your list of requirements pretty nicely, without the price tag.

Re: Sub $1,000 WheelsetI'm around your weight as well.. and wanted erm some bling.. under 1k there were some carbon alu clinchers that i am thinking about
Fulcrum Red Wind http://www.wiggle.com/fulcrum-red-wind-50-clincher-wheelset/ Campagnolo Bullet 50 http://www.wiggle.com/campagnolo-bullet-50-carbon-clincher-wheelset/ and lastly the mavic cosmic carbones http://www.probikekit.com/au/components/wheels/road-wheels/mavic-cosmic-carbone-sl-wheelset.html?utm_source=affiliateuk&utm_medium=affiliateuk&utm_campaign=affiliatewindow&awc=3977_1360925978_dc1f2f24549d86f3f24b4189119fcb5c
Re: Sub $1,000 WheelsetShimano Ultegra
- highly underrated and overlooked. 1652grams $400 Custom Build - DT240s hubs, Kinlin270 or 300 rims, 24/28 Sapim CXray spokes, brass nipples....1540 grams $800 for components, $150 for build = $950 (~$550 with ultegra hubs, ~$750 with DuraAce) IMHO, a sub 1500 gram, sub 24:28 wheelset will not endure your weight. Rethink the importance of light wheel weight and your 105kg when hurtling down a hill at 70+kg. I've seen a low km Fulcrum Racing 3 and Dura Ace C24 break spokes already this year.
Fav Ride : Pottsville, Byron, Bangalow, Eureka, Dunoon, Nimbin, Uki, Mooball, Pottsville 200km 3000m
